He remembered the town centre as being bigger, somehow. It was true most of the shops he used to go to as a kid were long closed, replaced by charity shops, or little pop up boutiques selling vapes or CBD or both.
Or turned into flats, or just boarded up.
The town centres in most small towns in this area had died out, replaced by big warehouse like malls on the outskirts of towns. You needed a car to get to them, even buses didn't go there.
Not that he had seen a bus, come to think of it. He remembered as a teenager meeting his friends on a Saturday morning down at the bus stop, his pocket full of change ripped from his piggy bank. Usually enough money to buy the latest single, maybe an album if he had been saving the money he earned from the paper round for a few weeks. They would laugh, joke, and pile on the bus hoping to grab the back seat - the prime spot on the bus for some reason.
