This female Ptarmigan was next to the trail as we hiked up to Valhalla Provincial Park in British Columbia Canada. I was astounded that she just sat there and didn't bolt or fly off, but then I heard a couple of pips and peeps and saw a tiny bit of movement from her chicks that were hiding under the Huckleberry bushes.
Valhalla is a special place since most all the animals are accustomed to humans and are not afraid for the most part. From the chipmunks to the Ptarmigan and up to the sheep, they all just hang out and aren't instantly running. I am always impressed by Canada's parks, they are taken far better care of than many in the states.
