I've been thinking about an alternative upvoting strategy over the last few days and feel following a new path for a while may energise me.
I'm not dissatisfied with what I'm currently doing from a vote perspective but have certainly been a little disappointed with so many of the posts I see out there at the moment, so much shit...so much shit, and that makes me think a change may be in order.
I'm thinking I'll give larger votes to comments. What I probably mean here is comments left by other users on my own posts, but not exclusively, I'm thinking of increasing my votes on comments in general.

Some people leave comments with text that is worthy of upvotes, imo. Some would be more likely to engage in conversation on posts if they might earn more doing so. It would be nice for them to earn on that effort. I doubt that I would comment more though - I feel like I already spend as much time as I care to on comments. I often find that writing a post takes only half the time of getting it ready to publish, with pictures, choosing the thumb, citing sources, title, tags, taglines, choosing community, setting rewards etc.
I already think of you as one of the relatively few who does upvote comments regularly.
Yep, I vote on comments and have done for years. I guess I mean I may choose to vote a lot less on posts and more on comments which may affect some people who's posts I'm voting now. It will maybe inspire some more interaction but, of course, that interaction needs to be the right kind. Those who comment with rubbish are likely to get a vote...but of the down variety.
I hear you. I've always struggled to read posts here on Hive - I guess partly because I'm so auditory, the act of reading feels like a drag rather than joyful unless a post is exceptionally well written.
I think it's why I'm not as active as I expected to be. I feel happy expressing myself on a range of topics here but have felt disenchanted by much of what I've seen on the platform.
It's like I need a sharper way to work out who writes stuff that's worth my time to read. Not only on topics that interest me but also from people who can string a proper sentence together. I don't need them to be perfect - I'm not. But I want to be able to ENJOY what I'm reading, or why would I spend the time?

Yep, it was a bit of a rant as I'd had a chat with @meesterboom on WhatsApp prior about different things. This place is very different to the one I knew back in 2017 and I don't mean in a good way. So many food people are gone.

Yeah, I agree with that. People drop and run hoping for a whale vote I guess. I've been slowly reducing votes on posts in my communities and have certainly seen a slowdown in there for that reason I'd say. That's ok, more VP to hand out elsewhere.

Comment voting is fun. I started doing more of it a while ago and it definitely gives me a warm fuzzy feeling :) HIVE has definitely kind of languished lately, and content is so subjective that it is hard to filter a lot of it.
I've been comment voting for years. My point here is I think I'll (generally) not vote posts. Not many anyway.
As for the content? So much shit.
I probably started about a year ago with the comment voting. It definitely draws out some of the opportunists. I know what you mean about the content, but then again a lot of people probably feel like the stuff I publish is crap too, so I can't really get cocky.
It's not about being cocky, it's about having the right to voice an opinion.
