This is the type of car we used.
Have you ever dirt road surfed? Some friends of mine and I used to do that back in the early 1980s, we had no paved roads in town or leading to town, but we did have a recently made road that was not paved, it was all gravel and sand very flat and it had a long straight stretch of about 3 kilometers.
Well my buddy had a Toyota Land Cruiser about 1970 model a very nice car by the way. What we would do was tie a rope at the back of the car and then we would use a Plywood sheet 8' x 4', stand on it and the driver would just hit the fuel and off we would go, it was very exhilarating and also incredibly stupid, I have no idea why I would do something like that.
The thing is it was real fun, it was dangerous and a lot of things could happen, the plywood could break, the rope could break, you could lose control, or a number of other circumstances, you had to know what you were doing, and we got to be quite good at it.
Then one day we nearly got struck by a tragedy, one of our friends who was completely new at the activity, decided to try it, he had no experience and he let go of the rope, he made some somersaults and landed on some bushes, he got his back all scratched, but luckily somebody had thought of making him use a motorcycle helmet so even though he did land on his head he was not the worse for wear.
After that we decided to stop doing that thing it was apparent that sooner or later we were going to have a major accident. So you see all of these thrill seekers you see around are just the continuation of thrill seekers that have existed always looking for extreme activities.
When I think of it I really am amazed at what time and age can do to you, I have no idea of where I got the guts to practice that "sport" because nowadays even running seems a little extreme to me.
