Have you ever been part of a project where you had to work as part of a group? Each person wants to say there say, and it becomes difficult when everyone has their own idea of how the project should be handled.
Everyone wants to be in charge but handling a project in a group format is not as easy as it sounds. We don’t all have the proper training on how to keep the project afloat, and how to make a success of it.
Project management looks easy until you actually try it, then you realize that it is not as easy as it looks.
For a project to be managed and successfully finished a proper team with various skills and talents are needed. The group should be trustworthy and committed because they are responsible for the planning and the execution of the whole project.
If there is no steering wheel on a car, then the car can't be driven. Similarly, without a proper team leader, and if everyone is not committed to the whole project, then it might end up as a disaster.
To successfully manage a project it is important to know exactly what to do where. Most projects are chaos until a plan is defined and the chaos is organized. The person in charge of the project is the person responsible for the outcome. It is the responsibility of the project leader to make sure that all the tasks are completed fully. To do this, proper managing and organizing skills are needed.
A clear path with specific goals should be mapped out from the beginning to the end. Planning needs to be done properly and a sound schedule is a key to a successful project.
Everyone involved in the project should have a chance to share their ideas, but the project manager should be responsible for the inspirational side. Cooperation is the foundation for effective planning and management.
Most resources financial or human are expensive. By keeping track of the project, and to include risk management will ensure that these resources are used sparingly and effectively.
While the resources can cost a lot it can also cost a lot of money to keep the project going, therefore a budget is needed, and it is necessary to work specifically according to the budget. Costs need to be controlled at all times, and if the correct management strategies are used then it will reduce the risk of budget overruns.
Changes throughout the project need to be monitored because everything doesn’t always work out as planned. If everything is taken into careful consideration, then the project result will be positive.
If the project fails, take that as a learning curve. Not all projects are successful due to unforeseen changes. Just because it failed doesn’t make the project manager incompetent. Many other factors can play a role in the failure of a project.
If the project ended in failure, go back to the drawing board, and try again. The project manager should take note of the problems that caused the projects to fail and should learn to do things differently in the future. Failure is the road to success, and many have failed more than once before they have become successful.
I can relate everything from the very beginning. And, the amount of pressure the project manager has to go is monumental. Bringing the cooperation in the team, handing the stakeholders, critical thinking, getting misjudged, and the whole management process gets intimidated quite often. Failure is a point of realization to fix the missing piece, and going better the other time.
