None of us really understands the immense effect that pollution has on this planet. The constant pollution of our soil, atmosphere, and natural ecosystems is taking its toll on Earth. Earth doesn’t stand a chance against the human race, because we destroy it faster than Earth can restore itself.
All over the world conservation efforts pop up, but it is not enough. There are just too many people and the collective efforts are just not enough.
Each and every one of us should put in more effort to reduce the overall pollution on our planet. If we start in their own homes, we might see a difference.
If everyone starts to reuse products, recycle as well as using proper disposal methods for waste, then our collective efforts may have a positive result. This might just be a drop in the bucket, but every little bit helps.
Recycling is the process where waste is converted into new reusable material. The benefits of recycling include the reduction of greenhouse gases and it eliminates the need for new raw materials.
Recycling will also ensure that there is the conservation of energy and water while it limits air pollution because there will be less transport on the roads. Recycled material includes metal, paper, electronics, and obviously plastic.
Reusing products is the practice of using something again for a different purpose. Reusing products will save money, energy, and time. Some products suitable for reusing are glass bottles, plastic containers, and cardboard boxes.
Factories are the biggest contributor to earth pollution. Air, land, and water are affected by certain factories. Their dumping sites emit toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide/sulfur oxide which not only pollutes the land but also the air. Often this results in acid rain that is damaging to everything around it.
One solution to help with pollution is to treat the wastewater from these industries. Once the water is cleaned, it can be reused or released in sewer systems for further breakdown.
Thermal oxidizers can be used in chemical plants to curb chemical pollution. Chemical plants release toxic gases that are released during their manufacturing process. If the toxic gases are subjected to very high temperatures, it breaks down the toxic gases before they are released into the air.
If a natural resource is destroyed, whoever was responsible should try to restore this resource to its original state. Unfortunately, most people do not think further than their noses, and this is hardly ever done.
Industries should be motivated to adopt more efficient production practices. They should try and use their waste products to make other useful products to lessen the impact their products have on the environment.
If everyone plants a tree once a year, it will reduce erosion and help with the washing away of contaminants into the water. Trees will help with the absorption of carbon dioxide which will in turn have a major effect on global warming and climate change.
One of the major polluters on earth is vehicles. Maintaining your vehicle might help with the prevention of pollution. Gasoline fumes are very harmful to the environment. If each person uses their vehicle less and uses alternative transport, like electrical cars it will reduce air pollution significantly. Lead also contributes to the pollution of soil and water resources. If all cars use unleaded gasoline it will curb the effects of pollution.
Grease, fats, and oils should be discarded as solid waste rather than discarded into a sink because it contributes to water pollution.
Medications and other chemical products such as paint should be properly disposed of so they don’t contaminate the soil or water resources.
No one should ever dispose of anything unnatural in the toilet. This causes toxic substances that might end up in our water resources.
Organic methods should be used by farmers for pest control, which will in turn reduce soil and water pollution.
Many people might not agree, but smoking is an evil source of air pollution. Cigarette butts contain toxic chemicals and can release these chemicals into the soil for up to 25 years. Stop smoking and contribute to saving the earth.
Plastic is a great concern as it is biodegradable and can damage the soil resources for up to 500 years depending on the product. Plastic bags also affect the ocean and many sea creatures die because of plastic straws and bags that lands in the ocean. If you don’t like to wash dishes, then get a dishwasher. Dishwashers save plenty of water and can save millions of liters of water that would have been wasted. Water is our most valuable resource, and every little drop helps.
The earth we abuse and the living things we kill will, in the end, take their revenge; for in exploiting their presence, we are diminishing our future.
