MicroFiction: A 250 word story written using the word prompt "standing naked in the arena".
...What can I say about the prompt for today, "standing naked in the arena." The words speak for themselves. The word "naked" can take on several meanings. One can allude to another person being unprepared or inexperienced. I share a micro fiction story with my interpretation of the prompt in the form of a ZAPFIC 250. This story format is told in exactly 250 words.
For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized the @daily.prompt's publishing of @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2089: standing naked in the arena.
Below is my story:
The work day came to an end on a high note for the sales group. To celebrate their success, team leader, Josh, scheduled a meeting to announced an after-hour social. It wasn't everyday that a member of their team announced an engagement. All team members agreed to meet at a local club.
Josh cast a furtive glance at Joanne who suppressed a laugh. They both eyed Benny, the youngest and newest in their team.
New in town, she offered to drive. New in town, he quickly accepted, not yet familiar with the city's layout.
They arrived first. Inside, the Ladies' Night sign glowed neon as they quickly entered.
Benny admired the abstract decor, but failed to notice the sign.
Crowded with the aroma of ale and cigarettes in the atmosphere that was less than desirable, they located a booth, then ordered drinks.
Where were all the men? Not wanting to expose the fact that he'd never been to such an event, Benny swallowed huge gulps of the cocktail.
New to this entertainment feature and unattached emotionally, his pulse quickened waiting for a chance to introduce himself.
Half an hour later, Benny leaned over. "Where's the rest of the team?"
"They'll be along shortly." Joanne turned and clapped loudly as balloons rose up.
Exotic music erupted. Several men burst onto the stage, standing naked in the arena.
"Bet you didn't expect that!" Joanne shouted.
Although in costume, Benny jumped up and sifted his way through the crowd, headed for the exit.
