MicroFiction: A 250 word story written using the word prompt "peanut head".
...A derogatory term, "peanut head" is meant as an insult. The terms refers to an individual's intelligence. In the alternative, the term refers to someone whom others feel are slow to understand, participates in foolish speech or actions. I share a micro-story addressing the prompt "peanut head" in the format of a ZAPFIC250. This new format I created involves creating a story in exactly 250 words, which is a micro-fiction form of short story telling.
For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized the @daily.prompt's publishing of @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2096: peanut head.
Below is my story:
The sixty-second rush made Juan taut against the car door. He slipped into the front seat driver's side. Uncertain whether nosy neighbors observed his movements, he looked straight ahead, sweating profusely. A single thought surfaced whether they might question his intent, especially if no male resided in the house. So, his head fixated on the garage while his eyes darted sideways.
He dared not look up. Cameras most likely would capture a smug face delighting in its owner's expertise that, so far, provided him steady chop shop employment.
How stupid to leave your prized possession unattended, vulnerable to attack! Now, it was just a matter of retreating from the driveway. Once clear, a path to ownership lie around the corner.
The heat exacerbated Rocky's injured head. Dazed and unfamiliar with his new surroundings, he lay quiet.
The cool breeze comforted him. Suddenly, the car jerked a speedy get-a-away. Confused and bleeding more, Rocky yelped, drawing attention to his predicament.
Startled, Juan jolted backward. "Damn, what the hell!" He seethed. The bizarre situation demanded calm.
Luckily, he located a fire station nearby, depositing Rocky.
"Whew, that was close!".
Later.
"Nice, but what's that red stain on the backseat. It'll need detailing. Your share just got slashed."
"Honest, I didn't realize!" Juan protested. "Who would leave an injured animal in the backseat?"
Raymond listened, biting pursed lips while shaking his head. He leaned in, then boxed Juan's ears.
"Distancing myself totally cause next week, you'll headline the Dumbest Criminals series, peanut head."

Algunos días no son tan suaves
El subidón de sesenta segundos hizo que Juan se tensara contra la puerta del coche. Se deslizó en el asiento delantero del lado del conductor. Incierto por si los vecinos entrometidos observaban sus movimientos, miró al frente, sudando profusamente. Se le pasó por la cabeza si podrían cuestionar sus intenciones, sobre todo si en la casa no residía ningún varón. Así que su cabeza se fijó en el garaje mientras sus ojos se desviaban hacia los lados.
No se atrevió a levantar la vista. Lo más probable era que las cámaras captaran una cara engreída deleitándose con la pericia de su dueño que, hasta el momento, le proporcionaba un empleo estable en el desguace.
¡Qué estupidez dejar su preciada posesión desatendida, vulnerable a los ataques! Ahora, sólo era cuestión de retirarse del camino de entrada. Una vez despejado, el camino a la propiedad estaba a la vuelta de la esquina.
El calor exacerbó la cabeza herida de Rocky. Aturdido y poco familiarizado con su nuevo entorno, se quedó quieto.
La fresca brisa le reconfortó. De repente, el coche se puso en marcha a toda velocidad. Confuso y sangrando más, Rocky chilló, llamando la atención sobre su situación.
Sobresaltado, Juan dio una sacudida hacia atrás. "¡Maldita sea, qué demonios!" se quejó. La extraña situación exigía calma.
Por suerte, localizó una estación de bomberos cercana y depositó a Rocky.
"¡Uf, ha estado cerca!".
Más tarde.
"Bonito, pero qué es esa mancha roja en el asiento trasero. Necesitará detalles. Te acaban de rajar la parte".
"¡Sinceramente, no me había dado cuenta!". protestó Juan. "¿Quién dejaría un animal herido en el asiento trasero?".
Raymond escuchó, mordiéndose los labios fruncidos mientras negaba con la cabeza. Se inclinó hacia Juan y le tapó las orejas.
"Distanciándome totalmente porque la semana que viene encabezarás la serie de los criminales más tontos, cabeza de cacahuete".

I chuckled when I read Juan's explanation for the blood stain on the back seat. Though he's a peanut head, it's a good thing he has his humanity intact and took Rocky to a fire station for help and possible medical treatment. Not every car thief would do that!
So in my book and contrary to Raymond's conclusion, Juan is not dumb. 😄 A delightful and funny microfiction! Nicely done. I wish you a relaxing weekend. !LUV
I have learned through the years that not everyone is black and white. There is a grey area in all of us. A minute human action or reaction can be seen from an otherwise hardened criminal. As with anything, there are exceptions.
Sometimes showing compassion can be seen as weak. More so in the criminal elements of the world. Juan is an example of this.

! help(no space) to get help on Hive. InfoThe story is also funny in a way. Juan's reaction to finding Rocky in the backseat is priceless. He's so surprised and flustered that he doesn't know what to do. In the end, he does the right thing by taking Rocky to the fire station.
