Greetings to all who participate here, especially @melinda010100.

This is my little story about this female carpenter.

THE CAGED TREE.

Once upon a time there was a carpenter's bow tie, who every day when he pecked at the caged tree would admire the sky and always thought that one day he would find his partner and they would have a great family with whom to peck at the caged tree.

This is a very tender female bird, he lets himself take photos, and show his beautiful feathers, black and white.

Great little story!

Mrs. Hairy was tired of the same old bark day in and day out. It was always beech tree, sandalwood, birch, or some other common species within the local arboretum.

Today she would try something different. The Johnson's bird feeder! The Johnson family appreciated birds of all types but they couldn't stand the constant banging of Mrs. Hairy so early in the morning.

Having racked their brains for a way to stop the hammering of the bird, at least in the early hours, they came up with only one idea that seemed to have merit. The Seed Stick she was now so eagerly feasting upon!

As she pecked at the seeds on the stick, Mrs. Hairy kept looking up. She wondered why the human family in the window kept on staring and pointing at her.

Good one! Eating seeds is certainly quieter than banging on trees looking for bugs!

!ENGAGE 20

Hmmm It seems like Mrs Hairy is in denial haha. Those human creatures are never happy either are they? LOL. Always complaining about something. :D

Trying again. !ENGAGE 20

It is a wonderful day in the forest, the air is fresh, you can feel the peace and serenity of nature. I will close my eyes, I want to escape for a moment from the world. Yes! This is what I needed!

Who knocks on the door? Please let me sleep, stop playing!
OMG! But what insistent people!
What is this? It's just you Hairy Woodpecker

Ha! She is good at knocking!

!ENGAGE 20

Sometimes the only thing we really need is just 5 more minutes sleep.

Then 5 more, then maybe another 5 and then mayb... :D

And maybe more...

It's winter and there is food scarcity so the woodpecker is trying to feed on plant material inside cage but could not reach to touch it. It look upward to find a way inside cage but fails . After long hard think, The woodpecker makes a loud drumming noise to protest against the injustice and complaining bitterly that @melinda010100 can provide 30oz jar of jelly to Baltimore Orioles and other birds but very unkind to me:) lol.

Hahaha! Great story! I have several feeders that the Woodpeckers enjoy, but this one is their favorite, because they can hang on it and hammer away like they are on a tree.

Haha ,keep sharing :)

Next time, maybe the birds should bring a toolkit to get inside lol :D

Haha , maybe I do agree.

Henrietta was sick of it!

The suffocating insistence of her parents that she knock constantly, ceaselessly and mercilessly for her poor sore beak. For what? She asked herself.

"You're a woodpecker, you peck at trees creating a knock... It's what you are expected to do"
Henrietta mocked her Father's monotone single faceted argument.

"My Father was a knocker, my Father's Father was a knocker ALL of our ancestors were knockers, Grandfather Walter on your Mother's side was a champion knocker 3 years running!"

Henrietta had other plans, she knew exactly what she wanted from her life. She wasn't going to waste her time, walloping her beak against a tree just to do what was expected from her for the sake of the family name.

"Knock like this" she said "Peck like that" mocking her knocking tutor from when she was just a chick, the bombastic Ms Tippytap. She knocked exaggeratedly like a bizarre parody of one of those 1970's headbanging heavy metal stars. Tears welled in the corners of her eyes as she contemplated a life being less than she knew she could be.

"Oh your Fathers just thinking of you my dear, he wants you to have an easy life, being different isn't any fun, you know!" Said her Mother Hortensia. You know something, my Mother always had a saying for times like these:

"No matter how much he tries a sparrow will never be a canary"

Henrietta was always bemused at her Mothers efforts to be helpful. She really loved her parents so much and wouldn't want to do anything to make them disappointed in her. Suddenly a plan struck her and she smiled knowingly.

She would invite them round to her place and prepare them a nice meal, normally she would go with something simple like mealworm but this time it was to be something very special. She prepared Bombyx Mori and Bombyx Mandarina served on a bed of white mulberry leaves. Silk moths and silk worms were her Fathers absolute favourite delicacy in the entire world.

The evening arrived and her parents were finished eating and with no small measure of trepidation, she realised it was now or never actually she also realised if she didn't take the leap now it would probably be never!

Henrietta stood in front of her parents and cleared her throat importantly. Henry and Hortensia shuffled nervously and wondered what was to come... Henrietta opened her beak wide and started to sing the opening strains from her Father's favourite operatic aria, the most beautiful, spellbinding sound filled the air, the hair on both her parents necks stood on end as they realised with heart-swelling pride that their Daughter Henrietta was destined to be a star...

The moral of the story? Oh I'm glad you asked Dear Reader: A sparrow must never try to be a canary...

Wow @stevenwood, what an imagination, very good story, good luck.

Haha. I actually really enjoyed writing this, the longer it went on the more fun it became. When I read it back to myself afterwards I was very happy with it. Mostly I am disappointed with the flow of my words, but for once I was pleased lol.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. Have an awesome day :D

Also @stevenwood, have a happy day, I hope I have an imagination like yours, but I will try .. ha ha

Your imagination is like any other muscle in the body. In the beginning it is capable of a little, when you start to use it more and more it can begin to surprise you.

When it is used a lot for a long period of time, it becomes strong and eager to take on any challenge :D

Start to get creative with your thoughts and see where the adventure takes you! I know you are capable of greatness if you choose to become great. :)

Highly Imaginative ! Great Story

Thank you so much my friend, great to see you here again :D

I had a lot of fun with this, I think I may try my hand at storytelling a little bit more, it was very satisfying :D

Singing opera! Of course that is what she is doing. I need to listen more closely!
You have out done yourself here, my friend!

Hey Melinda. I am away from home right now in a hotel with the worst wi-fi on the planet! So am not getting to respond as well as I would like or even as soon as I would like lol. Thank you so much for the fabulous comment, just know that I enjoyed writing this massively, when I wrote the opning line I had no idea where the story would go.

Once I was flowing I loved the framework and tinkered with it a few times but when I read it back I bloody loved it haha. Once I am home I will be visiting the other entrants to give some feeback and engagement. I will also respond to a couple of comments from yourseelf that need answering.

Have the Sunday you would most hope for my friend, we will cross paths soon :D

There has already been too much ENGAGE today.

Absolutely fantastically written response. The English teacher in me is giving you an A+.

Off to let my chickens out of the coop. I will tell them this advice to guide their day. One does think she's a rock star, so it's appropriate timing. Always good to knock a bird off her high perch with a wise avian idiom.

The spookiness is palpable!

Elsewhere, I was just saying to Melinda that I enjoyed writing this so much I am going to try my hand at a children's story. This has long been something I wanted to attempt, however I have always been terrified of my appalling grasp of punctuation but the actual creation of the narrative was deliciously satisfying.

I am now of the mind, 'what's the worst that could happen?' ((apparently I could also be on course for an A+!!!)) :D

I am wondering if the chicken is also named Henrietta? Hmm... D- for that, I accept it without question, hesitation or protest. Thankyou so much for that feedback, it gave a tangible boost to this poor, self-conscious British-dude!

The other spooky aspect is that as you were writing this comment I was writing one on your awesome recipe post, with the amazing black purple kale. :D

Spoooky, hahha! Have you encountered @vincentnijman? He's writing a children's story too. I think you'd be amazing at it. Find an illustrator here on hive and you're good to go!

Did you know that in order to digest the food you find while flying around, gets in better when you do the neckdance, the neckdance is best done from left to right and its a thing they do while eating when they are finished eating that will stop. you see them swallow and move sawllow and move. It really has rithym and if they could sing theyw ould do that to but the parents always said dont sing with your mouth full.
so neckdac while you are eating, good luck

Hahaha. Neckdance! You make that sound like you are an authority on neckdancing! Good one.

Love this. What a great contest- definitely my fave of week on HIVE. I love peoples responses so much. Congrats on being a featured community this week..I too am unaware of algorithms but if awesome bird tribe is a criteria you have ticked the box.

You are so very kind and I appreciate your support so much! I already have a photo chosen for next week. I love all the Engagement that the contest has generated!
I do need to do more promotion...it just seems like I run out of hours in my day! 😁

Ill name her patty!!
Patty is an orphan woodpecker nesting near that tree.. she was abandon by her parents when she was about almost a year old. Its a good thing she was able to fly a bit bit in lower levels only.
She has no one to take care of her so she manage to feed herself until she was two years old.
She was glad she found this bird feeder where she can constantly visit with no one to bother her.
Until one day a gal named Merlinda came along. She was amazed by the little bird trying to pecked some of the seeds inside the cage. So she took her camera out and shoot some photos of the tiny bird she even took a video of Patty. Unknowingly still Patty doesn't care of the beautiful human making her a big star amd putting her into a limelight.

An orphan! Patty appears to have done alright for herself! Thanks for commenting

They say they consider things from the outside, it gives more objectivity. So my friend the carpenter, has decided that he would use his freedom to record the world and that instead of remaining in a cage, he would use this to protect his provisions, after all the free dead plus food must protect him for himself. The racks of its cage, allow that in the turns they want, they can enter their beak and enjoy themselves, the cage has comfort to lay their legs and taste while their food remains safe.

Keeping his food safe! He is a wise bird.

Hello @melinda010100, This is my proposition.

I'm out of the cage, how happy I am. I'm free. I feel the fresh air. I am a woodpecker that can fly high and enjoy nature and I come every day to enjoy the delicacies that this patio shade invites. This place that is almost my home. Where every morning I bathe in its cool fountain and play with my flying companions.

I think you know this Woodpecker very well!

Bird: Knock knock!
Food: Who's there?
Bird: it's me, Woodie
Food: oh dear, I see you right there. What can I do for you?
Bird: I want to invite you to the outside world, where there is no lockdown, no restrictions, no violence, peace at its peak.
Food: Yeah, I would love to be out there. But they told me how my great grandma was eaten immediately she stepped outside. I won't like that to be my case.
Bird: Oh no. Sorry for your loss. Civilization wasn't there when she was eaten.
Food: Yeah. That was what they told my grandfather before they cooked him.
Bird: Too bad for the news. But am telling you to trust me. No harm will come your way.
Food: That's right. Your fellow birds told my neighbor the same thing.
Bird: Okay. Can I sing for you?
Food: Sure. Feel free.
Bird: Come closer so that I can whisper in your ear.
Food: Hunger Shame! Hungrily Shamed! Hungrily Shameless! That's all I see. Keep your distance. Covid-19 transmission in progress.

My answer to Feathered Friends Comment Contest:

Greetings to @melinda010100, I do not have a story of this Woodpecker, I will only express what I imagine:

I see that the bird observes that trunk of the tree behind the cage, and they, being birds, their nature is to freely see the sky and they know the trees in all their branches and angles. He is identifying that there is something out of the ordinary here.

There are people who do not learn to be as detailed as this sweet bird, sometimes we have barriers in front of what we want and we are unable to observe in detail to reach our desired goal. I'm sure that does not happen to this woodpecker, he watches a lot here, including that they take photos of him.

It also seems to me that the bird is observing that there are no ramifications of this tree trunk, it is possible that because it is feminine, it is also trying to find where to make a nest to have its little birds, the nature of all women is the protection of their children, she is very observant and quiet here to look for comfort, and to do what a woodpecker bites like.

This is how we should act, observe before eating and enjoy what we like.

There has already been too much ENGAGE today.

Great observations, Naty. Thanks for your thoughtful comment! !ENGAGE 20

Hello @melinda010100, I think that's a nice proposal. Let's see what story I can create.

I'll look forward to reading your comment about her!

Wonder how they got the "hairy" name... 😀

I wondered too, and found this. "the hairy woodpecker is named for the long, hair-like white feathers on its back."

That makes sense..😀

Haha I wondered too and looked it up immediately. If I had known Melinda was going to find the answer for us I may have saved the time lol. :D

These little problems must be solved... cheers

The moral of the story: try and get Melinda to solve them all hehe :)

I loved reading the stories from the first contest and they really made me laugh. What an imagination!
I am afraid I lack imagination and I am not of writing stories at all. But I definitely will look forward to reading what the others will come up this time.
Good luck to all that will participate!

I was delighted with all the stories last week. There are so many creative people here. I'm looking forward to the comments this week, too!

Beautiful, like your post.

Wow! Congrats at being a part of the "Featured Communities" list on Peakd!!

Nice! Go Melinda :D

I would love to see the group get more attention and grow!

Thanks for letting me know! I don't use peakd so I probably would have missed that! I wonder if we will get new members because of it.

Haha! It definitely is a good thing as many people will get to know the community because of it being in the "Featured" category which is always shown at the top.
(But I re-checked the featured list and somehow they have changed the list. They seem to change it often I guess.)

Making people aware is always good! 😀

The photographs and video are fascinating., dear @melinda010100

Thanks! All the birds that stop by my feeders are fun to watch!

I try to install a feeder when I come back home

Let us know how that works out for you!

Wow just wow😍😍😍😍😍 beautifully captured...i like birds..😇😇😇

Thanks! Be sure and join the #FeatheredFriends community! There are lots of great bird posts there!
