Holiday Travel.. or not.

in #travel5 years ago

It's the time of year when we typically go up to my mom's place to celebrate the holidays. We have the typical holidays to celebrate, Christmas and New Years, but we also have a couple of birthdays to celebrate too.

My mom is a New Year's baby. I also have a nephew who was born in the first week of January, so we always celebrate those too. By making it a combined celebration, we never really worry about whose family we are spending Christmas with. We can always spend Christmas Eve with my wife's family, Christmas day to ourselves, and then go visit my mom between Christmas and New Year. My Brother brings his boys down as well and we all celebrate.

Today was supposed to be travel day. It looked as though it would just be me and the kiddo. My wife has gotten a cold and has been running a fever so was not going to travel with us. Then last night we get word that one of my nephews got sick as they were leaving the house to head to my mom's place. So they turned around and went home.

Then his whole family got sick. So no traveling today. We are hopeful that tomorrow everyone will be on the mend and we can make the trip for the weekend. We'll see what the morning brings.

We are hopeful to get the trip in. We are only able to get my brother's family and my own together a couple of times a year, so really need to try to make it happen as often as possible.

How does your holiday travel shape up for you? Does someone always get sick when you try to travel? Seems like one of us always does.

I work in IT and honestly, usually end up working because someone needs to look after the systems, it's super quiet and usually might team mates are flush with little ones.

I honestly don't mind working, I've never been a fan of crowds so I'd rather take holidays during off seasons...

The problem is, I usually get so caught up with projects that I forget to take holidays. 2019 will be different though, I want to go to a couple of Ninja events and Steem events so that'll help get me away.

My wife is in Australia for 3 weeks visiting the fam, so that's been super good for her, she's been pretty homesick these past few months.

Hope you get away tomorrow! Good luck!

Thanks for the kind thoughts! We did make it out today, and are currently enjoying some good family time.

I always worked the holidays in hospitality and travel, so now that I have the opportunity to be off, I do it!

But I also worked in positions where I was dealing with a lot of people. I can understand the mentality of enjoying having the office to oneself.
