Now the weather is improving we took a trip to the local garden centre to pick up some plants. We were looking for some chilies to grow at home in a pot, because there is nothing better than fresh chilies.
We put them in just about everything except cornflakes, and it's a good excuse to go on a daytime date. Romantic!
There are so many plants coming into bloom that I got a bit snap happy for #marketfriday initiated by @dswigle and #colourfulphotography by @juliank
The cactus is one of my favorite plants. Tough as old boots and so easy to keep. I love their spiny details.
Next we saw these amazing Bonsai trees. Miniature versions of massive trees that you can have indoors. This one was cute with three teeny trees in one pot.
Keeping with the theme of miniature plants we spotted these fruit bearing trees. The first is a kumquat.

And finally this teeny Lemon tree also bearing fruit.
It is pretty amazing to think that you could have a tiny orchard indoors with these miniature breeds of trees that fruit.
As we were walking to the exit I spotted a flash of red. It was Basil the gnome. The English cousin of @luigi-the-gnome :)
He was just chilling out after a hectic day of foraging for fruits

Basil is a very laid back gnome as you can see lol

I've got a little orange tree like that @molometer but the leaves are turning yellow. You've given me a good idea for how to get some help with it . . . ask at the local garden centre.
Nice selection of photos for @dswigle's market day. I've yet to organised enough to do one of those. 😁
They are so cool to have at home I'm sure. Tell me, how is the fruit? Have you eaten any of the oranges?
The oranges aren't edible like a normal orange, from the one I have. The instructions said you could use them in mulled wine, or marmalade, that sort of thing. I think they are too sharp to eat as is.
Thanks for the info. I'll have to make sure to get the edible variety. Although the marmalade sounds interesting and fun.
Terrific photos, especially that cactus. I think I’d like to give that gnome a home in my backyard, along the dry stream bed detail running across the middle of the space.

Nice assortment pf plants for a small area.
They would look nice in any home I'm sure, plus you get the fruits for free'ish if you can keep them alive year on year?
I bet the bonsai wasnt cheap!

Basil is super relaxed in his surroundings! I love the little mini trees, specially the lemon and orange. I used to have a lemon tree long ago and far away, but I have never tried kumquats. You know if they are easy to grow?

Those miniature trees are amazing, I used to have one myself when I was young. That looks like a very smartly finished Wyevale garden centre, I have been to a few in my time it's quite a popular brand now.

It's pretty cool and a great place to take the grandkids too as it has a large pet shop and a little skating rink in the winter. Guess it must be a franchise then if there are other stores? tip!

I would love to have a fruit tree but Hubby doesn't want one. It could be because he knows he might be the one picking up the rotting fruit from the ground. lol
