Palm oil free soap - #IndigoSaturday

in #busy5 years ago

Here's a super simple idea that could solve a lot of the problems that we have created in the world. Bars of soap and shampoo made from natural ingredients. Palm oil free soap!

Unless you have been living under a rock recently you will know from the news that we are rapidly destroying our planet. Indonesia - Beaches full of plastic waste

This type of soap product is not a new idea and people of a certain age will recall from their childhood. This was all there was when we were growing up. Simple soaps in bars packaged in a tin or paper wrappers.

So what if you could actually do something today to save the environment from the tidal wave of plastics that are choking the oceans and land?

Does your bathroom shelf look like this? - Plastic soap bottles?

Old ideas sometimes can help when thinking about such an overwhelming problem as plastic waste presents. Most people throw their hands in the air and say.

What can I do to cut down on my use of plastics?

Well here is a very practical solution. Stop buying soap products in plastic bottles and rather source your soap needs through companies that use basic ingredients and reusable packaging.

Soap and conditioner

It may come as a surprise to some people but the active ingredient in just about every soap product on sale in these plastic bottles is sodium lauryl sulfate The only thing that differentiates them from each other is fragrance, branding and marketing.

Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS), and sodium pareth sulfate are surfactants that are used in many cosmetic products for their cleaning and emulsifying properties. They behave similarly to soap. It is derived from palm kernel oil or coconut oil.

Making this simple switch may not save the planet but at least you know you have tried to do something to slow down the deforestation and destruction caused by plastics and Palm oil production

This post is not meant as a shill for any particular brand or company. There are many alternatives to the plastic bottled varieties. Just search for. Palm oil free soap and you will find a huge range on offer.

If you make this simple change you can say with some confidence that you are doing what you can to cut down on your plastic waste impact on the planet.

Don't be overwhelmed. Be proactive and do what you can do.

My entry for #SaturdayIndigo

Indigo is a not a very common colour to find in nature and in general. It is most often associated with the 'blue' jeans of the early days of the type of work-wear created by Levi's, Wranglers etc.

Are you building something on the steem block chain? Let me know in the comments so that I can support you if it makes sense. This is what I'm developing. Steemimages

What a cool post for Indigo Sunday, and after recently seeing some of the statistics about plastics and the amount of waste that comes from it I have started ot try using fewer plastics I now have shopping bags in the car made from recycled materials, and try not to use single-use plastics but i had not thought of shampoos and conditioner i will be on the look out for somehting similar here ;)

Yep it is a global issue that we can all do our bit to reduce. I started the same as you by just getting some proper shopping bags and leaving them in the car.

I have started [to] try using fewer plastics I now have shopping bags in the car made from recycled materials

The more I thought about it and looked around the house the more I knew there was much more that I could do. We are targeting the low hanging fruit and quick fixes like the soaps above. Easy to change things are at least a start.

Think globally, act locally.

Sadly I dont think the big players and governments are doing enough but if we all do our little bit we can make a huge difference

So true mate, every day that we reduce our use/dependance on these plastics the faster the manufacturers will jump onboard. Governments have never been so useless as now.

Yes we can turn the tide if we all do our bit

Very interesting sir molometer! I didn't know that SLS was made from the the palm tree. That's a simple but powerful move that everyone can make.
The reporting about the ocean pollution that I've seen is alarming!
