Shit coins in a slime pit!

in #busy7 years ago (edited)

It just goes to show that blind hope can occur anywhere. On a recent visit to Cornwall we popped into the Tolgas mill. It a museum of sorts. Think Disney meets Dismay!

This first photo is of an old slime pit full of rancid water and for some crazy reason visitors are throwing low value or shit coins into this hell hole and making a wish? (Maybe they are wishing. Get me out of here?)

Maybe a member of staff suggested it as another revenue stream?

It is a sorry excuse of a place and just a bunch of derelict old crap lying around uncared for and with little imagination put into the displays.

OK so it's a slime pit. Great move on.

The expression health and safety is taken very seriously too as you would expect in an old mill. Check out this well restrained sign below. Note the expert use of rope. #signage

please mind your head.jpg

I hope this thing below isn't the pulley that they used to use to pull the lift up and down the shaft?

All in all it is a pretty uninspiring place and hasn't got much going for it but they are a plucky bunch down in Cornwall and sometimes it is refreshing to see how people were made to work and in what terrible conditions. Britain was at the forefront of the industrial revolution when capitalists really knew how to exploit labour.

Keep the workers nose to the grindstone while they get rich. Some things never change...just the technology. Here's the very grind stone.

That brings us to the end of todays post and it ends at the begining with this establishing shot of the entrance sign.

My entry for today's #treetuesday initiated by @old-guy-photos you can just see the top of the trees under the sign. :-)

Oh we have plenty of those "tourist traps" here. Plunk down some old stuff and charge an admission. Of course now with the advent of fun online many of those places have died off. Like they lady once said "Aint nobody got time for that!" lol

Yep it's shocking what crap is out there passing itself off as 'a great place for a day out' for the family.

You'd have to be a very interested in arcane working conditions or desperate for something to do to waste time seeing this old shambles.

I'd bet Atlantic City and Las Vegas never saw the end of their gravy train either thanks to gambling web apps 😂

Hahahahaha! What a great post! I really love the sign with the rope holding it up. That's a truly inspired bit of irony. I do like old industrial sites, but this one is pretty funny. I really like the line at at the bottom of the sign. "Explore a unique survivor." That's a pretty cryptic message to emblazon on a sign.

Haha yes indeedy,

Explore a unique survivor

It certainly is unique and it has survived because it was to much to tidy the place up...unlike the Eden Project which shows what can be done with these old brownfield sites.

Glad it gave you a giggle. Made my day 😋

Touché. I'm not sure their management will invite you onto trip advisor to rate the experience at their tourist attraction.

Very vivid write up. Loved it.

I'm certain I wouldn't submit anything to trip advisor. It's be found to be full of fake reviews.

Here on the steem blockchain you 'can get' the unvarnished truth as I saw it. Just my opinion.

Glad you liked it. 😋

Your tree photo made me laugh! So you didn't throw a coin and make a wish?

The tree was the best thing about this place ☺

I thought about throwing some steem in the slime pit but they don't take cryptos...yet! 😋

That's good that you didn't! That Steem is going to be far too valuable and you will be happy for every single one that you own!

I've never sold a single steem or sbd...yet!
Won't be selling anytime soon either.

Just an interesting juxtaposition between the old technology (old coins) and the shiny new cryptos!

Deep! 😂

Howdy sir molometer! wow, do you know how long ago they shut the mill down? The place looks pretty old. But then most things in England are old. lol.

It appears that the mill shit down in the 1860's
In English terms that's practically yesterday! 😂😂

haha! so true about the age of things over there! Well I'm shocked that everything looks like it's in pretty good condition for being that old. You'd be hard pressed to find a building that old over here, still standing anyway.lol.
