YouTube has lost the plot: A Hot Air Balloon flight over countryside

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Like many people on steemit. I too have a YouTube channel.

I've been happy to post my videos on the platform not for monetary gain but just to show another side of life. I never saw it as a job or money making proposition.

I've had a YouTube channel since 2009 but only posted there occasionally. More so in the last year.

My videos are just simple like this one, mostly educational and hopefully fun to watch.

I don't swear or try to shock the viewers but along with many 1,000's of others my channel will be demonetized because I have less than 1,000 subscribers.

My watch time is well over 11,000 hours per month but that isn't good enough apparently?

The pittance that YouTube paid is being withdrawn and no doubt our content will be deindexed or dropped in the search rankings.

So eventually the channel will die like all the rest. That's pretty sad because the core of YouTube is the community, most of whom never made a bean but just enjoyed the interaction.

I never did it for the money but it did help me to upgrade my camera equipment and I did learn a lot about video and audio production.

I was happy with that. So it's not a total loss.

All websites it seems to me, have a finite lifespan.

YouTube is coming to a crossroads and they have decided to change direction.

That's fine. I wish them well.

Luckily we have Dtube and I will be hosting my video content there from now on.

Hope you enjoy this peaceful little hot air balloon flight over Cambridgeshire.

It was an anniversary present from our children in 2013.
It will now live forever on the steem blockchain.

Goodbye YouTube it's been an experience.

Have you been demonetized? Let me know what you think in the comments.

Sort:

Of all the things YouTube could've done, I think this might have been one of the dumbest. I've been seeing video after video this week by folks in similar situations and it's just mind-boggling the number of people affected. It's worse than the AdPocalypse from earlier. Dumb, dumb, dumb, YouTube!

But hey...may you make many more D-tube videos that can't be erased!

That's the plan. I'm all in on Dtube. YouTube was made by the community. As they destroy the community then they will destroy YouTube. Dumb beyond belief!

I am among the channels to be demonetized. Like you, I have never done it for the money but it was nice to see a return every now and then. I have put much more money into my channels than I have ever made.

I plan to move my favorite vlogs and gaming videos over to DTube. I'll still use YouTube as a tool, while we can. I have a feeling YouTube is trying to go more commercial so we may all be cut out completely eventually.

Make sure to follow @molometer. He is also one of my "kids" :)

Michael be sure to check out Deb, she is one of the sweetest gals on here!

You're too late, I already have Micheal under my spell. LOL

I think they have lost direction. The thing that made YouTube interesting was 'us' ordinary everyday folk just sharing bits of our lives.

Not everyone wanted to be a corporate shill and flog crap to their followers. I can't stand most adverts.

Thank god I listened to Paul and followed him here to steemit where community is first and foremost.

@old-guy-photos me and Deb go way back. We got history lol

Just hope they don't fiddle with this place. Tip!

Same for me! Lets be thankful to have @dtube now.

You are spot on @mammasitta and I'm really excited to be taking on a whole new chapter on Dtube. I've put a few vlogs up there already. I like it's no clutter interface. We can do a collab if you like. That would be fun. :)

Nice post.I respect you very much because you contribute to steemit.I will do activities like you.I would like to extend the steemit.

Good for you. Can't wait to see some original work from you.

I never monetized my YouTube channel.

That's very philanthropic of you Craig lol
You can bet they were making money out of you!

Yeah but YouTube never paid like this post or Steemit in general. We have something so very special here. I hope folks can appreciate it even when there are hiccups. You are doing great, mate. Keep on doing it :)

That's the honest truth. This one post has made more in one day than I made in 3 months with almost 200 videos on YouTube.
I have invested time and money into steemit and I intend to make it a massive success.
Screw the rest of the money extracting platforms on the web. They can keep them. Tip!

Well said my friend.

That post is so funny I almost pmsl. Old bladder lol

I guess you-tube needs the money or little people need not apply.

Yeah it's a bit of a mess to say the least? They have lost the thing that made it interesting. Real people!

Who needs another 'TV network?' tip!

try to upload them on dtube too if u want

I thought about that but think I'll take a different direction too and do all new content on what I'm into now.
Thanks for the suggestion though tip!

Wow. I had no idea that they were demonetizing video channels that had less than a thousand subscribers.

That seems like a really crappy decision on their part.

I always thought about starting a YouTube channel but I never have....... but now I know if I ever start a channel it's not going to be on YouTube but one of the other options.

The chances of starting a YouTube channel now are pretty remote. Your videos will be scrutinised to fit their guidelines, and there are many.
You need a 1,000 subscribers and more then 4,000 minutes of watch time before they will even consider your videos for monetization.
Dtube is the way to go. Tip!
