Alarm, as everyone stopped and stared in our garden. What was that sound???
I heard that hoarse familiar warrior call outside and rushed out to see if my presumption was correct.
Squirrels and doves and all other life in the garden disappeared in an instant. They all remembered who the real boss of the garden is. Some of them were scattered by Harry before and now things were back to normal, as the party in the geese absence was over.
They were gone since last winter and Sally lost all of her babies to predators, so I hope that this time round there would be some survivors.
Harry the warrior was the one that made the call and queen Sally was on her way down.
Can you see someone peeping at me behind the plant?
Here Sally made sure that I saw her and Marian put their bread out.
Hi Zac, long time no see, Harry shouted from the roof.
Sally had eaten and now it was bath time.
Marian where's the water Sally shouted, so Marian had to explain to her that a Rock Pigeon HERE had a bath just before Sally arrived.
Okay, I will make do, but please make sure that I will have water tomorrow night, Sally answered.
Sally was done with eating and a bath and here she went back up on roof.
Harry didn't come down, same as last year, as he was up top looking for a fight with other geese that might object to their return.
As Sally took off Harry followed and they were gone.
So now the next weeks will be filled with action and babies as Harry will have aerial battles and Sally will do her best with the nest and the birth of her babies. Always so nice to see her walking down the road here inside the complex with a long string of babies following her.
This is wild nature and apart from feeding we don't interfere with their habits. In fact some of the residents complain about the presence of the geese, but that's their problem and not ours.
At all of the nine places where we lived for the past 20 years, we had wildlife in our gardens and we don't intend to stop now, or ever. Nature in all of its beauty is a part of us, a very important part, not only because of its beauty, but also about the lessons in life that it teaches us.
Serenity, respect, peace, love and also survival are some of the lessons that we learn.
So we look forward to this new adventure with Harry and Sally and like I said, hopefully some of her babies will survive this time round.

They are back! How good to see Sally and Harry again! I wish them the best of luck this year, but, like you, I don't interfere with nature. I love them and support them but, don't put my hand in where it doesn't belong.
You can't worry about people that don't like nature. :)
I bought three Mallard ducks one year when the kids were young. I bought them when we had a summer home up near the Great Lakes. We gave them shelter at night as there were plenty of predators up there. We released them at the end of the summer and were sad they weren't there when we came back the next spring... except, we heard them quacking weeks later, as they circled the ponds and made a landing! They all had mates and had their families there. They came back every year!!!!!
It was a truly magical moment!

So many people make the mistake of wanting the beautiful little babies and they go out of their way to get one. Then the baby grows up and the cast it away. Our animal shelters are full of cast aways.
What a lovely story about the Mallard ducks and I can feel your excitement when they returned. Always such a grateful experience and it just goes to show how you also care for nature.

Oh yes you also know that feeling. They came to greet and we haven't seen them since, as they must be out hunting for a suitable nesting spot. Problem is that the empty house where they used to nest is now occupied with a new owner with a big dog. So that's now an no go for them.

Oh yes, they already did and now it's back to the same beat. Harry sits on the roof for hours waiting for Sally to come and eat, then she takes a bath and then they both head out for the night.
I give it two weeks and Sally will come to parade the babies.

Food source always draws them back, they will find a new home quick enough, may even be in your garden.
Enjoy, it is entertaining watching them waddle around, especially with a family in tow.

This is wonderful news ❤️ I hope this set of babies will survive, and next year you will have an entire flock :)
They are still only preparing the nest, then the mating season starts and in autumn the babies will be born. We also hope that at least some of the babies will survive, but the empty house where they used to nest now has a new owner in it. So I don't know where they will now go to nest.
Time will tell.
