Throwback: Filming a Swiss Socks Ad in the Alps
Every once in a while you look back at a production and think: that one was special.
This is one of those projects.
A while ago, I had the chance to produce a commercial for a Swiss socks company — and the brief was simple: show Switzerland the way it feels. Not staged, not overproduced, but authentic. The kind of images that instantly make you want to lace up your boots and head outside.
So naturally, we took the production to the Alps.
Our shooting locations were exactly what you imagine when you think of Switzerland: crystal-clear mountain lakes, endless alpine meadows, curious cows wandering through the frame, and winding hiking trails that disappear into the mountains. The idea wasn’t just to show socks — it was to show the lifestyle around them. Early morning hikes, fresh mountain air, and the quiet beauty you only find high above the valleys.
We started filming before sunrise to catch the soft alpine light. The mountains slowly turning golden, mist floating above the lakes, and the sound of cowbells echoing through the valleys created the perfect atmosphere. Moments like that remind you why storytelling through visuals is so powerful.
Throughout the shoot we followed hikers moving through the landscape — crossing wooden bridges, walking along narrow trails, stopping at lakesides to take in the view. The socks became part of the story rather than the focus: gear that supports the adventure rather than steals the spotlight.
Working in the Alps always comes with its challenges. Weather changes quickly, gear has to be carried up mountains, and cows sometimes decide they want to be part of the scene. But that unpredictability is also what makes these productions special. Some of the best shots happen when you simply let nature do its thing.
Looking back, the project perfectly captured what makes Switzerland unique: nature, simplicity, and a deep connection to the outdoors.
And honestly — there are worse offices than the Swiss Alps.
