Why Twitter Hack Is Good For Crypto?

in DTube5 years ago (edited)

From time to time, some nasty things got hacked on the Internet... Earlier it was some govs databases (WikiLeaks), then apple cloud with some celebrities kinky videos, and it was a turn on Twitter this time... Some of the most popular Twitter accounts were hacked, and from their account has been sent a message of "Big Bitcoin Giveaway", which was actually a scam...

Now, every 5 years old kid already knows that the giveaways where you have to send some money (in any form) to a certain address to receive a double amount are a scam and fraud, but why are things like that still happening... That's more a quest for some psychology institutions... I have tried to break out how this event can be a good thing for Bitcoin, decentralized social media networks (like Hive or LBRY), and crypto in general...

There is a popular saying that even negative marketing is good marketing, and we can use that in this particular event... Actually, if we look closer, this isn't a negative advertisement for Bitcoin, as Twitter is the platform that has been hacked... In this scenario, Bitcoin has worked flawlessly, as always... :)

But, on the other side, Twitter has been hacked, and it looks that those accounts weren't separately hacked, but more likely all-in-one, which means that nobody has stolen personal passwords (and they can't blame Barack Obama or Elon Musk for the non-secure keeping of data)... It looks that it was or "inside job", or someone hacked "MAIN" account and created posts "in the name" of those accounts... In either way, this mess showed the truth about "secure data" on the centralized platforms...

Check out the video for more insights...

Thank you for your valuable time,

I think this is good for blockchain based social media and people might think of moving to web 3.0 but it will take time for sure. Infact web 3.0 is not ready to handle mass onboarding but hope with passage of time it will improve and will be scalable.
Thanks for the nice topic.

Agree... It will take time to Web 3.0 to get some momentum... We have to be patient...

Thanks for the comment!

I agree. The recognition that crypto will receive from that hack is huge. Thanks for the post.

Yes, it will... A lot of weaknesses of traditional platforms are getting on the surface... It's definitely time for changes... ;)

Thanks for the comment!

That is some really great points Zoltan, if you understand what happened or at least the major part, it was Twitter that got hacked not Bitcoin, and Bitcoin is not a scam even if scammers sometimes use Bitcoin.

Not exactly sure that the general public is able to see all that though, but we will see how it develops, stay awesome.

Yeah... it depends on the general public, but anyways... it will be forgotten in a 3 days... :)

Amen! It is unfortunate the Twitter incident happened but it really did shine the light on centralized social media & how unreliable it all is. Even though a lot of people feel their accounts are private, that is not the case. There's only the illusion of privacy but I digress..:)

Since we are seeing this all crumble slowly but surely, I really think people will start seeing the value of HIVE & other social blockchains with use case. We are just starting but this will give people an alternative where they can feel safer & not be hacked so easily. Two things people look for are safety & security. This is huge, other than HIVE just being a completely awesome place, community wise.

Thank you for your awesome video & for shining your light on the world. You are appreciated more than you know. 💜

Two things people look for are safety & security.

Actually, you have nailed it with this... People do look on that more than ever before... Because of all this spreading fear and panic, cryptocurrencies can "profit" on that as it is all about safety and security!

Thanks for your awesome comment and support!

The positive impact coud be visible in long run but for now Bitcoin crashed ..lol!

Bitcoin's publicity has always been in association with negative things. And associating it with some hgh profile hack & scam isn't helping its image. But once that's rectified, crypto will moon.

I wouldn't say that Bitcoin crashed... lol... You can say that OIL crashed when it went under ZERO... 🤣 🤣 🤣

And publicity is exactly what it says... Opinion served from the mainstream media... I see a turnaround in the narrative when people realize that mainstream media is serving more and more lies, and lose trust in them...

That will come very soon... actually, it's already happening big time!

Thanks for the comment! Appreciate your time and opinion!

This was an interesting argumentation in respect to the security of blockchain based applications or lack thereof for centralized applications.

For a long time I've tried to create websites with php / sql and I was so scared of sql injection that I finally stopped doing it. Being able to program stuff and to have all the data on a secure blockchain seems a so much better solution....

create websites with php / sql and I was so scared of sql injection

Oh, yes... I totally understand your fear about that... SQL injections are a very nasty thing and I had a couple of encounters with that problem in my hosting business...

Blockchain brings a lot on table regarding security, and it has been used more and more for different projects where security is the main factor...

Thanks for the comment! Have a great weekend!

It shows your account is not secure on centralized platforms. You're not in control over there. So if you have control over your account and use social media, blockchain-based platforms like Hive are the only solution.

I made a video but I hope I will upload that when 3Speak is up and running.

I agree about how (un)secure are our accounts there... and the problem is that even without the hack, they can do whatever they want with your account...
