Weekend Hill Race

Weekend Hill Race

Hello everyone. On this occasion, I am going to relate my experience attending a race held last weekend. As a calisthenics coach, I recently went to the local park to lead a routine for one of my students who decided to have a brief training session over the weekend. Upon arrival, we noticed that an organized race to climb "Cerro El Vigía" was about to take place. Without overthinking it, I decided to sign up along with my student to try something different.

My student is a 65-year-old man, but he is extremely disciplined in his workouts. Before starting, I gave him instructions on how to maintain a fast and safe walking pace for the climb. Once the event began and we reached the base of the hill, I decided to push ahead. I executed a fast sprint toward the summit to gain distance. It was not an easy climb; after overtaking a large number of participants, I lowered the intensity and walked for a significant stretch before finishing with a short jog at the end. I should note that I am not a runner; my physical conditioning comes entirely from calisthenics.

After reaching the finish line and resting for a few minutes, I headed back down the trail to find my student. To my surprise, he was still moving at a very consistent and solid rhythm. During the final stretch, he surprised the crowd by performing a smooth but steady jog for the last 20 meters. Since this was an uphill course, the physical demand was high, making it a significant achievement for someone of his age.

I spent the rest of the day reflecting on the activity. It was a productive weekend experience where my student managed to push his personal limits and improve his fitness levels despite his age. It served as a practical demonstration of how consistent training pays off in demanding environments. I am satisfied with our performance and the fact that we broke the usual training routine with a challenging outdoor activity.

Without anything more to add, I bid farewell. Stay tuned for future posts! Until next time!
