While hiking on a gusty warm day in the arid landscape of Oklahoma, I heard the sound of running water. I thought it was odd, being that it is so dry here. I wasn't expecting to find what I did!

Lo and behold, was a little spring trickling out of the hillside, filling a pool with cool, refreshing water. What a sight for sore eyes!

This spring had many small water sources oozing out from the hillside.

This life saving spring was well known by pioneers back in the 1800s as an oasis for the travel weary.

As we followed the spring's creek, I noticed another sound of gushing water. This time the sound was much louder than before.

I found a stream that led into a little cavern, this seemed quite odd . . .

As I approached, a gust of cool air poured out of the cavern from a small waterfall! It was a beautiful site! I could only imagine what a weary pioneer felt when they saw this beautiful mecca, it must have been a slice of heaven.

This area is known as Roman Nose State Park, and is named after the 19th century chieftan who housed his tribe on these lands. He welcomed the weary traveler to stop and seek shelter at this oasis in the middle of nowhere.

Nice photos. I watch all the gold shows, Gold Rush, Bearing Sea Gold...love the adventure and gambling aspect of it all. Will you find a nugget today, or just more dust?
