trying out this LETHAL ENFORCERS game on my circuit bent sega genesis.

bent genesis

I didn't really know the controls when it came to reloading, and i obviously can't see what i was shooting on screen, but the visual bends were pretty cool in this game, especially towards the end of the video when i was getting the machine to freeze up and glitch out.

circuit bending is the art of making new connections in the electronics, often with a switch or knob, to create unintended and sometimes other-worldly new effects. in this case, it is visual effects- but quite often circuit bending is done with old audio electronics, like casio keyboards and drum machines from the 80s and 90s

i am compiling material to use for a video(perhaps an NFT???) to be accompanied by some audio/beats made from 8 and 16 bit-sampled source material that i have also been working on. stay tuned!

let me know if you think i should look into doing some NFTs!

I really like the cascading orange pattern at the 02:58 mark

What's your position on people sampling your work?

I don't have anything particular in mind. Really just enjoyed watching

You could create an NFT that would confer ownership or sampling rights, I suppose. Would be an interesting use-case that hasn't really been done

Anyway, great stuff

hi thanks! these were fun to make i need to find more of my old genesis games to use since each makes different results.

also yeah, i thought about trying to do the whole nft thing but i guess ive just been putting off figuring it out or signing up to do it out whatever

i m fine with any remix/reconfiguration of my work, preferably if one isnt using it for profit or wants to attribute me.

thanks for digging it, i hope to make more of these style vids and ideas in the future!

I'm kind in same boat regarding NFTs at this point. Just haven't gone through with it. NFT showroom requires a Twitter account and an existing portfolio online to point to. Both things I don't have. And in the case of the former, don't want

As for the sampling/remixing, if I were to use something of yours (or anyone else's) I'd share it via Hive or 3Speak. As far as I'm concerned, attribution is not optional — goes with out saying

Hive is great for this sort of thing due to the beneficiary % option for post payouts. Can share any rewards fairly...

The future is now and it's an exciting place

I'll give you a heads up if I ever do though, before posting. Give you the chance to have a look and give your perspective, input, blessing, disapproval, whatever...

I'm curious. Tell me, what does the process of circuit bending look like? What did you do here? Is it like I imagine: opening up the console and soldering wires between unconnected traces on the ICB?

yeah i hear you re that approval process, but i also get why they dont want it super anonymous, people could steal other peoples works or whatever

re cirxuit bending, i axtually just scored the sega real cheap on ebay (like 60$) but i do have circuit bending and some electronic building experience, although i am far from a master.

essentially, you are just connecting wires to different places on the circuit board and creating new sounds/visuals that were not part of the original design...its actually is pretty easy and one can learn by just opening the guts of an old keyboard, guitar pedal or whatever and hold a wire between two connectioms til youfind a desired effect-then solder the points and put a knob (potentiometer)or a switch to turn the effect up or off.

i recommend a cheap old casio to start with, theyll make some wild alien sounds-i havent been gutsy enough to take apart my old video gear to try some bends but i imagine its the same process

Yeah sweet, might have to give that a go. Isn't there a chance you could blow it or yourself up? I suppose as long as you stay well away from the power supply you're good

yes, you want to do it with a battery power in, not connected to the wall! ... just in case, and yes,the circuits by the power are not the ones you want to try and bend!
