ULOG 152 - Got my Yellow Sash at Wu Xing Dao Kung Fu

I think it has been about 7 months I've joined the Wu Xing Dao class in Wyoming (Australia). I've received today my Yellow Sash with is the second level, the first being the White Sash that you receive as you first join the school. At the class today, we've been told that next year, we would get to choose between Iron Shirt and Tai Chi, I think I will go for Tai Chi as I need to improve on my internal energy and using softness in my movements, I'm a bit too tensed.

I took a day off work today, I felt unwell yesterday afternoon and had to head back home in the afternoon. I had a headache and got dizzy. Woke up this morning and the headache was still there and now my heel is also aching (plantar fasciitis). It usually settles after a while but not this time. A tight bandage helped with the pain though and I had to keep moving around as staying still for a while makes the pain comes back as soon as I start walking around.

I went in the backyard to check on the Black Soldier Fly Larvae and look what was in the composting section.

Noisy Miner

A Noisy Miner, there are usually a bunch of them on the fence facing the BSFL bin. They are not after the larvae but hunting the flies that are standing on the Fish Mint leaves.

My bait trap is working fine and I already have some small larvae showing up.

If you are wondering why I'm collecting those oversized maggots: they are complementing the compost worms and can consume several kilos of food waste per day! And on top of that, I'm selling them starting at $15 per 50 grams for people with reptiles, fish or chicken.

I also went and filled up three root pouches with potting mix to plant my black turmeric (Curcuma caesia) and there are still many left so I will be putting them back for sale.

That’s so awesome bro.

Goddess, I am so jealous. Really craving to get back into some regular classes. I’ve probably asked this before, does your group have any trainers in Melbourne?

Thank you 😄
Let me ask my teacher tomorrow.

Apparently there is no Wu Xing Dao school your way.

Congrat! Good stuff getting your yellow belt and keeping on with Tai Chi!
That's one squirmy pile of maggots!
Who'd ever figured that you would be farming them.
Love the black turmeric if I were in Australia I'd love to buy some from you
Thanks for sharing - such unique stuff!

Thank you @porters.
I just went in the backyard and there were heaps of adult black soldier flies buzzing around. Looks like I will have tons of eggs soon. Will upload a video later today.

You look so happy! Love that photo of you. I have never done martial arts but would like to one day. Maybe I'm too old I don't know lol. Congratulations on your yellow sash.

I need to screw some maggots for my chickens but don't know where to start. Perhaps it will make them like me more lol.

There is always so much going on in your garden and in your life how do you get time to work? I wish I had about 100 g and then I could just stay at home and hang out in my garden. That'd be just enough for me to get even I think.

😄 thanks!
Too old?! There are many styles of martial arts that can suit any age. Internal martial arts are good for all age, all gender, all body size. Have a look at Wing Chun or Tai Chi. There are other self-defence based styles too, some are physical some are more about technique and use of the opponent’s force to your advantage.

Start with a worm bin and the BSF might come around and lay eggs inside the bin.

I have to admit there are times when stress level is pretty high. I try to dedicate one or two hours per day for something outside of work.

Ah yes for me gardening relieves the stress of work full stop in many ways we get more gardening done the more stressed we are haha. I keep meaning to start a worm bin but I'm a bit scared that I will just let it die. I have a perfect spot in the garden ready for it and I might give it another go.

I kinda meant too old to start something new, I'm hooked on yoga so not sure I want to get into another somatic art, but I do like the sound of it and feel I should.

Oh I see. Yoga is good already.
