The many wishes you have, if they are granted, how well will you be prepared to take on them? It is true that a lot of us are hoping for a particular favour to be done to them, but one thing I believe is that you also need to be prepared to receive the favour. Imagine someone that has been hoping to get a job as a graphic designer but does not know even the easiest graphic designing and has not made any attempt to learn. Even if he gets the job today, how will he go about it? I mean, with which skills will he undertake the tasks and demands of the work? This is why we need to be prepared for what tomorrow holds.
You may not know the trend that will become the order of the day tomorrow, neither do you know what tomorrow may hold, but if you are well prepared for it, you will scale through. As a sailor for example, you should not be concerned about how and when the storm will arise, you only need to perfect on your sailing skills so that anytime the storms arises, you will know how to direct your sail. Similarly in life, you may not be able to stop the challenges and problems of the world from coming, but there is an extent to which you will build up yourself, you will be confident that you can solve the challenges.
It is worthy to note that opportunity favours those who have adequately prepared for it. The same opportunity may come to more than one person in the same way and maybe at the same time, but how they respond to it will be determined by how they have prepared for it. A lot of people that complain that they lack opportunity are sometimes not prepared for opportunity, so they will not know when opportunity comes.
While others are waiting for when life will deliver their desires to them, the person that is prepared for success will take any slightest opportunity that comes and make something great out of it so as to achieve success. Take for instance: during the Covid lockdown period of 2020, while a lot of people were complaining that their businesses were affected by the lockdown and they did not know how to make ends meet, I know someone that went into the production of sanitizers and other sanitary products. You will agree with me that such products sold very well during that period because of necessity, so the person made so much money from them.
However, why he found it easy to produce all those things was because he already had prior knowledge of them as he learnt the skills before then. When he was acquiring the skills, people may not know the reason, even he himself. But it was the skills he acquired in the past that got him prepared to face what was coming ahead. It is true that luck is real, but you do not have to wait for it - you work to get it. The truth is that it is better for luck to meet you while you are already working, because you will make the most of it, than to meet you idle.
One of the ways to prepare for tomorrow is to get more knowledge. The more knowledgeable you are in a particular field, the more chances you have to solve problems arising in that field. In addition to an increase in knowledge, you also need to increase in your skills. You will agree with me that nature will not give you orange juice but it will give you orange itself. Whatever you do with the orange is entirely up to you. If you need the juice, then you need to engage your skills and squeeze out the juice. Similarly in life, most of the opportunities that will come to you will not bring a "finished product" with it but a raw material. So you need to engage your skills in order to turn the raw material to finished product.
One of the things to always have at the back of your mind is that the actions of today will be part of what will create the kind of tomorrow that you will see. This is exactly the way that yesterday was instrumental in forming the foundation on which today is built. So for whatever you want to be built tomorrow, the foundation should be laid today.
