A few months back, I was discussing with a friend and I asked her what her goals were. What she told me was so vague that, not only could I not wrap my head around it, but she did not also understand what it entails. She just liked the term and adopted it as her goal without knowing what it is. I then asked her how long has she had the goal and she said about 5 years. I quickly understood why she had not pursued after it for 5 year. I mean, the goal was not clear, she did not understand it, so how can she achieve it? This is why, even though we are to have big dreams and goals, they should be understandable, and simply enough for actions to be taken on them.
In order for success to be attained and for a target to be hit, there must be a clear target in the first place. Imagine as a hunter, you are trying to hit a target that is fast moving at night where everything is not clear, you will waste so much time in futility without making any progress. But if you have a clear target, it will be easy to hit it. In the same way, when you keep your goals as clear as possible, it will be easier to achieve it. More so, you need to know what you are doing before you can get it done.
In order to make your goals clear, you have to define it. After defining it, it will be easier to plan and execute it. When a builder wants to build, the first thing to do is to put a description and a detailed architectural drawing of the building. The purpose of this is to provide a clear and easy way to go about achieving the project. If the drawing is not clear and understandable, there will be a challenge in executing it. In the same way in life, for you to achieve a goal, there must be a clear goal that you have set first, with the roadmap to achieving it.
There are many benefits of making your goals clear and understandable. The first one is that it gives you the much needed motivation to pursue after the goal. There is a zeal and enthusiasm that comes within you to do what you have clear vision about than when you are doing something that is unclear and vague. Whenever your vision is as clear as possible about a particular thing, it triggers a kind of passion within you to go ahead and undertake it. Of course, there is a driving force that it released within someone to do what they find easily understandable than something that looks difficult and complex. This is actually the same reason why a lot of people learn the automatic gear cars faster than they learn the manual, because they find the former easier.
Another benefit of making your goals clear and understandable is that it enhances quick and good decision-making. There are times when you will need to make some quick on-the-spot decisions in a matter of split-seconds, and at that point, you will understand that having a clear definition of what you are doing will help you to make good decisions. In addition to this, it also opens you up to welcome more opportunities, while removing confusion. There is nothing as confusing as wallowing in something that you have zero idea of doing. However, with a clear definition of your goal, you will eliminate confusions.
The next benefit of setting a clear goal is that it positively impacts on the mind and makes one to think positivities and possibilities. When your goal is achievable, it will make the mind to align the thoughts towards achieving it. By aligning with the mind, the actions also tend to fall in positively and it makes the result to be positive too. There is a level of optimism that comes when you know that what you have set your mind to do is something you you can achieve, rather than what you know is obviously impossible. Even if you encounter a form of challenge in the course of pursuing after your dream, you will not let it sway you off your foot.
