My mother and I wake two hours early on the second day of Eid. We have to do much more cooking. We prepare special dishes. My father and brother wake at their usual time. They wear their best clothes again. We eat breakfast after morning prayers. My mother and I pack the food into the baskets. My father carries one basket and my brother carries the other.
They leave the house to greet the men who live in houses near us. I do not know how many houses are near us. I have not seen them. My father and brother know the houses and the men and boys who live in them. They visit the houses and call the men to come out. They find a common space and share the food from the baskets each man has. They also share news and stories. The boys play games together. They stay there all day to celebrate Eid.
While they are gone my mother and I work in our house. We clean the kitchen first. We wash the covers from all the beds and hang them outside to dry. We sweep the house and make it tidy. We are tired because we wake early two days together. But work must be done. We check the garden for ripe food and cook our evening meal.
We eat our evening meal when my father and brother return home. My mother and I clean the kitchen. We bring the bed covers inside after they are dry and put them on the beds. My mother work to sew new clothes for my father and brother. We are happy when it is time for sleep.
