My Strategy For the Noxious Fumes Ruleset in Modern Champion

in Splinterlands16 hours ago

When it comes to the Noxious Fumes Ruleset in Modern Champion, I like to play Eternal Tofu as my summoner in combination with self-healing and triaging monsters. Below I am going to share my recent battle from Modern Champion 1 / 2 where I am taking on a higher ranked opponent ZaWarrior from the Guild of Neoxian.

The Strategy

One of the key pieces to my strategy is a selection of the summoner. When it comes to the Noxious Fumes ruleset I like playing Eternal Tofu as my summoner because this summoner boosts health of all my monsters by two points which could come in handy especially in the Noxious Fumes ruleset combined with the Eggceleration ruleset where all units gain plus one to all stats after each round. So in this case survivability is critical combined with high damage ideally.

Eternal Tofu also gives thorns to all monsters and that is helpful in case my opponent also decides to play high damage monsters like Venka the Vile.

In this ruleset we have a fairly high mana battle at fifty four points available to build my team, Fire, Water, Earth, Life and Dragon splinters are available. It is tempting to go high damage Dragon route, but I believe the mana is just not high enough plus Earth and Life have really good triage monsters for this battle as well as a very resilient small mana tank: Sacrosanct Shanker.

Sacrosanct Shanker is a great little tank that I like to play in Noxious Fumes ruleset as well as in small mana rulesets. This monster comes with a base health points of seven, four speed, four shield and three melee damage for just four mana. It also has two really good abilities for the Noxious Fumes ruleset: Rebirth and Divine Shield. This combination of abilities makes this small mana tank very resilient plus when Sacrosanct Shaker self-resurrects she comes back without being afflicted by the poison and comes back with a divine shield where she can take the first hit without sustaining any damage.

In the second position I placed the self healing monster: Mystic Mudbinder. This monster comes with three magic damage, six void armor that is resilient against magic attackers and seven health points. It also has important abilities of self healing and Armored strike which makes for a strong damage monster. It also comes with an Oppress ability that deals double damage to no-attack monsters.

Keeping with the theme of survivability I placed Stonebind Matron in the third position. This new Conclave Arcana reward card comes with three magic damage, eight health and six speed all for eight mana. It also has the all important ability of Triage to keep her teammates in the battle longer.

In the fourth position I placed my favorite high damage dealer Venka the Vile. This legendary neutral monster comes with a seven melee damage boosted by Piercing ability and Oppress and is able to attack from any position, and when she kills a monster on the opponent's team she uses her Trample ability to strike the next monster on the opponent's team. This is a very strong damage dealer and I like using it even if I suspect that I can encounter Eternal Tofu on the other side.

In the fifth position I have Mahkah Hemling, this legendary rarity nine mana monster comes with four magic damage, six health and four speed. It is another monster that improves the survivability of the team with Triage ability as well as can survive longer himself as he uses his Scavanger ability to boost his health. It also has a blast shield so I placed it right next to the very resilient taunt monster: Bellowmancer.

Bellowmancer is ten mana legendary neutral monster that is very resilient and hard to kill in combination with the two triaging monsters, besides using a Taunt monster spreads the enemy fire to two targets and doesn't let them focus fire on a single target.

The Battle

In the first round we took out their front stats boosting monster many times, so by the time the second round started we didn't have to deal with it anymore and our team is still intact:

The boosted Ulund monsters on ZaWarrior team did manage to take out our taunt monster in the Second round:

In the third round we did loose our Mystic Mudbinder and the remaining two monsters on ZaWarrior team now have really high magic damage!

The good news is that we were able to take out their Calamity monster in round four so we come in a really good position into the round five:

And we found strength in numbers in round five finishing off the last monster on ZaWarrior team:

Nice win against a higher ranked opponent and almost twenty six SPS for the win:
