My go to cheap and fabouous eat has gotta be The Taos. They do the best dumplings in town that the locals go. All the tourists only knows to go to a much more famous, over rated and expensive restaurant insead.
I always bring my visitors here it has never failed me once. The star of the eatery are the steamed dumplings freshly made during the day. On this visit, we ordered three baskets for the four of us. Each basket contains 8 dumpling and cost less thans USD3 - that's per basket not per dumpling!!!
The Taos does a good fried rice as well, we ordered a plate to share.
The other dishes that The Taos does incredible well are the appetisers. My, and all my friends' favourite are pigs liver. We had two dishes. The other appetisers that are very good include pickled cucumber, bean curd slices (on the right) and sliced pig ears. They may sound a bit off putting, but if I didn't tell you, wouldn't know what it is, and you might have tried it. They are briased, and then thinly sliced, and are nice and crunchy because of the cartilage.
They have a whole range of other appetisers on the shelves, and you help yourself to them. The waiter will come and count the number of dishes you have had before you pay your bill. These appetisers includes braised aubergine, bambooshoots, peanuts, seaweed, broad beans, shredded potato etc.
When I first came to The Taos, they already had two shop fronts plus an upstairs, and often we still had to wait for a table. This time I came, they have taken over this third shop, and the upstairs, by the look at it. This is another prove that's they're definitely the best in town. And hopefully I won't have to wait so long for a table in future.
