Never Forget: Logan Marr

in #familyprotection6 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone.

Children die at an alarming rate within the organizations that are sworn to protect them. They are taken away from their parents due to a perceived danger, only to find themselves in a more dangerous, or even deadly situation.

A few years ago, in a rare bipartisan effort by the Senate Finance Committee, an investigation was launched into one of America's largest providers of foster care: the MENTOR network.

The 2 year study found that 86 children died under the umbrella of their care and custody over a 10 year period...

Only 13 deaths were investigated by the agency!!!

70% of those children died unexpectedly!!!

The panel noted that the rate of death in foster care is 42% higher than the national average!!!

So I decided to start a new series, and bring attention to the innocent children whose very lives were snuffed out because of these monsters who demonstrated in the most horrible ways, that they don't really care about children at all.

Maybe you've heard of Logan Marr. I just recently learned about her. At only 5 years old, she was killed while in state care. Here is her story.

Christy Marr was a new teenage mom living with her mother, Kathy Baker. Christy and Kathy would always fight over how to care for baby Logan, and once Kathy even called DHS(Department of Human Services) on Christy. (Sound familiar???) When DHS came into the picture, they didn't find fault with Christy's parenting, but they were concerned about her boyfriend, who was in rehab for drug use. Christy was given the condition that anyone coming into their lives needed to be approved by their social worker. Around the same time, Christy's mom was with a man who had been accused of sexual assault, therefore, Christy was ordered to cut ties with Kathy.

Having a very small support network as it was, the separation from her mother was very difficult, and Christy eventually took Logan to a babysitter at Kathy's house. Even though the man who had been accused of sexual assault had moved out, he showed up there while Logan was present, and a neighbor called and informed DHS. They immediately sought state custody of Logan, claiming that Christy failed to protect her child from unsafe people.

Christy tried to flee, but circumstances led her to return, and Logan was taken into state custody at 2 1/2 years old. Christy became pregnant. She was ordered to stay in a group home throughout her pregnancy, then find her own residence afterward. She was also ordered again to sever her ties with her mom. Christy fulfilled these requirements, and Logan was returned.

Being a single mom with little support was extremely difficult. Christy reached out to her father in Florida, and moved in with him, but ultimately wound up moving back to Maine, and back in with Mom. She started dating a man named Paul. The case was reopened because years ago, during her parent's divorce, she had accused her dad of abuse (which she recanted). Another reason her case was reopened was because Paul was a shady guy with a record. The new case worker, Allison Peters, took the girls after receiving a tip that Paul (now Christy's husband) hit Christy in front of the kids.

Desperately attempting to get her kids back, Christy divorced Paul, worked 2 jobs, and attended mandatory classes and therapy sessions. The two girls were living with a new foster parent, Mary Beth Anderson.

As expected, separation from Mom was devastating to Logan, and she asked when she could have her mom back. Now a 4 year old, she started lashing out with severe and violent temper tantrums. Mary Beth brought her in for evaluation, thinking that Logan must have been previously abused in some way. Extensive evaluations found no evidence of abuse. It was, however, found that she was not coping well with separation from her mom, and counseling for that was suggested. Mary Beth was at her wits end, and didn't want to care for Logan and her sister anymore.

So in comes Sally Schofield.

She actually worked as a supervisor right there at the DHS agency! How convenient! She always wanted to adopt a daughter, as she had 2 sons. So against agency protocol, Logan and her sister were essentially hers. Sally was told that DHS was going to pursue the termination of Christy's parental rights, so the girls could be adopted. In September of 2000, they moved in with Sally.

Visits between Christy and her girls were cut back. When she did see them, she noticed something was wrong, and in December of 2000, she videotaped the visit. In the video, Logan expressed that she was being mistreated, right in front of the caseworker. Christy was forbidden to bring it up. Even after mistreatment was indicated, Logan's caseworker did not visit the home.

Christy wrote her girls a letter, to be given to them at the next supervised visit. The day of the visit, there was a snowstorm, and the meeting was cancelled. Logan never got the letter.

Dear Logan and Bailey, my sweet little ladies. I think of you so much and often it seems hard to believe you girls have been gone so long now. In a month or so from now, I stand the chance to lose the both of you forever. And it's been no picnic, but this is not your fault. It's mine, and mine alone. I want the both of you to know that no matter what happens, I love you, and will never stop fighting for you.

That night, Logan died in the basement of Sally Schofield's home.

Sally called authorities and told them that Logan was having a tantrum, so she put Logan in the highchair to scream it out. The highchair must've fell over with Logan in it, and she hit her head on the basement floor.

A police officer on the scene looked behind a blanket that was hanging up in the basement, and he saw a swatch of duct tape with hair stuck to it, as well as frothy looking blood. Further searches found a total of 47 feet of duct tape. Investigators concluded that the tape was repeatedly looped around Logan's body, head, and mouth in an attempt to keep her quiet and in her high chair. An autopsy revealed that Logan had suffocated as a result of this heinous abuse.

Sally was found guilty of manslaughter. She was released from prison last year.

Christy is obviously crushed over Sally Schofield's release. So is the first responder who arrived and administered CPR on the scene, who said,

"I never saw any remorse in her at all. She's the most cold hearted woman I've ever met."

Logan's sister was returned to Christy.

No disciplinary action took place against the caseworkers involved in Logan's case.

So today I ask you: Never forget Logan Marr.

Consider supporting @familyprotection. They are endeavoring to spread the word about the injustices taking place against loving families because of so called "child protection services." They also support families who are victims of these organizations.

What a heartbreaking story. Poor girl and poor mother, where is the sister of this little girl? Maybe I just missed it in the story, has she been returned to her mother? That picture of Sally makes me sick, laughing as if it's s a nice picture that they're taking for the family album or something. What a twisted soul :(

I know, it's so heartbreaking. Yes, the sister was returned.

That picture of Sally makes me sick, laughing as if it's s a nice picture that they're taking for the family album or something.

It's very disturbing. How can she even have the nerve to smile like that? She looks smug, like she's proud of herself.

So glad to know the sister got returned, although you's almost think that's been done to make up for the "trouble" that has been caused. Like that would make up losing her older daughter. Horrible..

yes she looks proud.. scary woman yuk

She looks psychotic in my opinion.

Isn't it amazing that children can be removed from parents with no evidence of abuse, just the hint of possibility, yet when abuse is actually announced by the child a foster carer, in the employment of the system, gets no investigation.

The more I research, the more I see that in so many of these cases there were warning signs, and they were completely ignored.

I don't know how you manage to research these things without falling apart.

It's hard, but I want those who are unaware to know the truth. Decided to only do a few of these though, because it's very heartbreaking.

Jesus. Seeing her smiling so comfortably even in prison just flipped me off. To think she now walks free (and guilt free as her expression shows) while Christy suffers for life is disgusting

That picture was so surprising to me too. I guess even murder and prison time doesn't get her down. :/

They're sworn to protect children from harm and yet one of their higher ups and up doing this? How does she even take care of her two boys?

Logan Marr did have behavioral problems, like violent tantrums, and Sally's boys are her own. She probably loved them more, and they were probably better behaved. Definitely not an excuse though. All Logan Marr really needed was love and her mom back. So sad. :( Thanks for your comment @nigtroy.

It was to be expected taken into account how she had been separated from her mom forcibly. And as you said all she really needed was some real love and her dear mommy back:(

Oh my, this is such a horrible, disgusting story. I can't understand such people - who would think to hurt a child. A mother, at that, who should know better.
Utterly terrifying what monsters live in this world. And discouraging, although I think they can be fought and that maybe, if enough people join the cause, things can change.

It did cross my mind that this and other posts I'm planning on authoring would be too much to stomach for some people, but I still feel that these stories need to be told.

if enough people join the cause, things can change.

I agree, the more people who know the truth, the better.

Thanks for stopping by @honeydue!

How sad. It burns me up that evil woman only got manslaughter. If the parents of the girl were to ever take justice in their own hands, they would be hard pressed to find a jury who would convict for it.

Yeah, it was determined that the death was accidental, so manslaughter. :( Just awful.

The Memory

At times, I keep thinking who's more dangerous: PEOPLE behind wars that kill hundred of thousand people in no time OR retards like Sally? It's shameful that they don't get exemplary punishment and walk away freely. Disappointed!

Both are dangerous, but with war we for the most part know what to expect. People like her are wolves in sheep's clothing.

It's important we do remember those who have been neglected and died because of the system. Evil cannot be allowed to continue. Thank you my friend @snowpea
