The News
I wish I could bring better news of the $HIVE price, but it is still looking for new lows. It seems Coingecko is lacking data for $LEO, but I have not been checking on that as much.

It looks like we had a fairly good HPUD according to @hivebuzz. @arcange gave us the monthly statistics that also show people are levelling up their accounts. The low price helps with that. It came too late for HPUD, but @molometer added over 50k! He and my other friend @shanibeer just marked nine years on this blockchain. I reached ten years as I got in fairly early. Mind you, it started some months before that and I may have missed out on some opportunities to really make a lot. Given how high the price went back then it would have been tempting to sell some, but these days I do not see that as worth while. I am happy to build my stake and help others.
Friday Follows
- @blanchy is a talented writer with some comic skill. He makes some good points about how our precious DHF has been spent. A lot of funds have gone to people who did not seem to give Hive much real benefit. Hive should be helping to raise people up, but it can do much more if we can actually build the community and improve the price by creating value.
- @ericvancewalton often writes about security and commented on a recent attack that drained a number of Bitcoin wallets using a long-standing bug in the software that made them less secure. We have to place trust in our developers who have to anticipate possible attacks. Security and encryption are notoriously hard to get right and it is best to trust algorithms that have been widely tested rather than thinking you can just come up with something better.
- @nicklewis added another post to his #churchproject. Anyone can contribute to this and I have done a couple.
- @livinguktaiwan is looking for people to support with her votes. @slobberchops made a similar offer recently. They both set some criteria on who can get votes. You need to show you are committed to Hive.
- @kath017 is new to Hive. Check out her introduction. She is another who likes to travel.
I am a fan of communities on Hive when they bring together people who share an interest. You do not need to follow everyone when you can find posts you will like in communities you join. Some I follow are:
- Linux. There ought to be a big overlap in people who like open source and the crypto world as both like alternatives to centralised systems.
- Music Technology is another effort from @nicklewis. There is an amazing range of hardware and software available for making music and it is interesting to see how others use it.
- I got my solar panels a couple of years ago. Several people post their energy statistics in Solar Energy. There is a lot of range in how this can work economically.
- I started the Drumming community as that is my main instrument these days. We have some talented drummers on Hive.
The Dog House
This will be another case where I do not want to call out anyone in particular, but I see so many cases where people do themselves few favours in how they comment on Hive. There are some who post hundreds of comments each week, but that does you little good if they do not gain you engagement. By all means congratulate someone on their post, but if you can start a conversation it can be more fun. I see some who hardly ever respond when they get a reply as they may be too focused on finding more posts to comment on. As with the communities above it is best to find people who share your interests so that you have something in common to talk about. That is how people operate on most social media. With rewards being worth less now you ought to be looking for value in sharing ideas.
There are also those who post and rarely respond to comments. If you want your followers to stay engaged then you need to show you care about them. It might be a bit different if we were talking about other platforms where the 'stars' can have millions of followers and cannot possibly respond to all of them, but Hive is more like a small village in comparison.
When you find the creators you enjoy then responding to them is more likely to make them stick around. It is not just about the rewards.
I tend to think that you get out of Hive what you put in. I was always into commenting and built a following with it. That can be a lot of work, but I enjoy it.
Of course if you are relentlessly negative then people are likely to just mute you and will not see anything you do, but that is a choice. I am not blind to the issues of Hive, but I look for ways to make it better.
The End
I still believe in the potential of Hive to be a power for good. There is nothing else quite like it and I find plenty to enjoy. The corporate sites tend to annoy me so I hardly use them.
Live well and Hive five!

The week has been great. Lots of updates. Despite the hive price it is good to see those who have been around for a long time still stick around. I know many have gone, but many have also stayed. Along with finding new people I hope to see the old faces return too.
Happy Friday happy weekend.
Some of us have no plans to leave as we have friends here. I've met so many cool people through Hive, including yourself :)
Nice group of people you highlighted here this week!
I keep looking for more, but there will be some old favourites too.
Awesome post man. It's quite impressive that you've still got this going after so many years. Hopefully Hive gets the big revival it deserves. Like you said, there's nothing else quite like it anywhere. It really deserves to be in the big leagues. Over the years so many insignificant projects blew up and then burnt out. Hive is still here
We've outlasted a lot of platforms, including some from Google. I think that even if certain key people dropped out then others would step up to keep it going.
Excellent weekly reflection, @steevc! Even if the crypto market has its ups and downs, the true value of Hive remains in its community and the consistency of building for the long haul.
Exactly. Some of us have been here for years through good and bad times, but the community keeps us coming back.
I've corporate sites are mostly cesspits these days and unless you are looking for something in particular (YouTube) the algorithm feeds you tons of AI slop. I rarely use it anymore and there is a growing backlash to the tripe being offered up.
Thanks for mentioning the new member @kath017 she is a good writer from what I read and has a story to tell.
Good advice on finding the right communities for your interests. It makes sense.
I read the @blanchy post it was a shocker to see what has happened with some of these characters.
I gave up on some other sites and only use some to stay in touch with friends. Youtube is useful if you are selective, but can suck you in.
I just noticed I didn't finish the title on this post :) I'll add something.
Yeah we have to be very selective on YouTube. They've ruined it.
I don't use any social media at all anymore. I haven't for years. It's just a big time suck and my time is more important to me as is my mental health 🤣👍
I find some good stuff on running and drumming on Youtube. I don't know where else I'd go for that sort of thing as it's not on Hive, yet. I don't really get Instagram. I like that Hive can have some deep reads as they can be better than a video.
I'm glad you said that 'yet' YouTube and Google is a monopoly and as such is the goto place for video atm but there are other platforms like Nebula which is owned by the creators.
It's been around for years but whenever some big YouTuber states they are moving to Nebula they basically lose all their subscribers.
Maybe one day people will use 3speak in the same way. 👍
Update: @steevc, I paid out 16.906 HIVE and 0.000 HBD to reward 14 comments in this discussion thread.
:)
It's a little like life. At the end of the day, you want to have done something meaningful.
Exactly. You only get one chance for a good life.
Having returned from a break, I have no plans to leave.
Does CoinGecko show the price of multiple coins on the same graph?
It can do such plots, but I do this one via their API with my own script.
Thanks for the clarification.

Nice post, mate!!!!
I think there are still good contents to discover on HIVE. We should stay within our usual circle.
Hmm, that's not what I think, but do what makes you happy.
