One day if you find yourself in Central Illinois, stop by one of the BEST Taqueria's around. This place has been family run for the last 15 years and they're recipes have rarely changed since it's first opening. This food is no joke, if you want to go for true Authenic Mexican food, which you should ALWAYS do!
Taqueria El Porton was opened by the Navarrete Family, and once the doors to the restaurant were opened, a new taste of Mexico was born. With their amazing mouth watering food, you can get anything from some delicious El Pastor Tacos to the most complex dishes like the Molcajete(which could serve a small family).
During the winter months, they hand make tamales. I would come in sooner rather than later for those though because once the word is out they fly by fast! They offer Chicken and Green salsa and Pork and Red Salsa Tamales! Another dish that is only offered only during a certain time is the Carnita's, and when they have those it is an absolute treat, you need to run to El Porton if you get a whiff of these delicious Tacos topped with their specially made Pico De Gallo.
If you aren't a spicy fan, I suggest eating dishes like the; Chimichanga, Quesadilla, Fijitas or a Burrito, but always include the Queso dip, you can't get any better than that! If you're gluten free try entrees like the Tacos(corn tortilla), and the Chille Rellenos. And if you do like Spicy, like myself, then I suggest eating all the table salsa and trying the Red salsa(ask for it if they don't provide it) I swear, you'll love every second of it. For your main dish I recommend checking out The Chicken and Red Sauce or even the Quail in Red Sauce, you could also try out Chilaquiles with green salsa! The list could go on and on, honestly, because everything is the BOMB, here at this little Taqueria.
