It is a weird public holiday in Finland today for "the ascension" which is something about forty days after Easter and finally losing the additional chocolate weight. However, this year it is a bit different since my wife is away on a work trip overseas for a few days, and we are left here to "fend for ourselves" during that time.
So we got some cake.

Since a lot of things were closed, we went into a shopping centre where most was open, had lunch, bought a few things for a home handicraft project for the both of us to do on the weekend for her room, and got a slice of cake to share.
It was a nice day, except I got a call while shopping to fix my barely working home internet connection. The call was fine, though it took a long time for him to talk through things (which was fine, but Smallsteps was bored) and I ended up having to buy a new router from them, though I got it for less than half price. Still - annoyed. The one good thing was that while they didn't have one available in my local shop, they did happen to have one in the shopping centre we were in, so I was told I could go and pick it up in ten minutes.
45 minutes waiting in a line....
Only to get to the counter with the SMS and email I had received (now an hour earlier) and be told that I needed to have ID. I rarely carry my wallet with me these days. Sure, it is "protocol" and it isn't this guy that makes the rules, but the problem I find with this is that not only do I have my phone from the same provider, to get into their app you need to be able to validate through a banking service. It is far more secure than a random drivers license. When I mentioned this, he said "perhaps one day we will have the ability" - they have the ability this day. It is 100% available without any changes, except to allow it to happen in their rule book.
I almost had them cancel the order and remake it so it could be sent to my closer store instead, but remembered that I might have put the wallet in the car, but wasn't sure. But I told the guy that if I come back, I am not going to wait another 45 minutes for this.
I had it. Waited 10 minutes...
Once this was done though, we continued on with our merry day, I went to the gym for a quick workout, and then once home again, we sang some karaoke together. In one song, Smallsteps even said, "You almost got that line in tune!" - Score!
Anyway, now the next annoying part of the day will begin, which is setting up the new router and then going through and readding the 12 million different components that need to attach to it.
At least we had cake.

That's a lot of people though. I got slightly annoyed with my daughter for that one time as I'd given her cash to pay for something or other (a lot of my budget operates on cash purely because it's infinitely easier for me) but she forgot her wallet so she texted me asking if I could send it to her account instead and she would give me back the cash when she came back and I did manage to do it in that particular incidence it messed up all of my budgeting for that period.
and I'm already bad at numbers so recovering from the occasional but inevitable blowout is entertaining
How did setting up the new router go? Everything a bit more reliable now?
Exactly. I know people who haven't carried their wallet for three or four years already. The technology is there (especially for a phone service provider) - why not use it?
Don't know! The sim cards are a different size, and despite me asking about it, they said it would be fine. I have to go back....
Probably because they have to pay someone to write it and it will be expensive when there's a lot of things that really, really, really need to be extremely really very quite infallibly secure (I know nothing is infallible but when it's sensitive information you have to absolutely do the very bestest you can to get as close as possible) and that's going to eat into shareholder profits therefore is unacceptable.
Do you use digitalid for licenses and stuff? I'm still actively rejecting the single point of critical failure. I would probably claim the same for still using cash if I didn't have the dyscalculia excuse XD
Ergh that is quite the pain in the system >_< can you at least go to the closer store or do you have to make the trek back to the same one?
Without you wife at home. I was in the same situation a few days ago. I was alone, so I enjoyed a lot. I did every thing I wanted to do. But, in time loneliness hit hard. At least you have you daughter.
Yeah, it was a nice morning too. Smallsteps was a bit upset that her mum left for a few days, so she came to our bed and we snuggled for a few hours since she didn't have to get up for school.
Cake looks and sounds yum. Hope things go well with the router install. Just seen a comment where it seems it is not. Never does go well it seems. Well, it will come togther eventually. At least you got your workout in. You also have the crafts with Smallsteps to look forward to this weekend.
Annoys me. Specifically asked - screwed over.
Will have to go back tomorrow and sort it out.
What's your favourite dessert?
Cherry Delight
I love cherry desserts, but for some reason, Finns aren't big on cherries. We have a couple cherry trees and every year I pick some and get my wife to make something, but she doesn't eat it :)
Sadly, I can't eat much of it when it is made. But I do enjoy what little I can have. I love cherries as well. Like cherry pie as well.
A decent cherry pie would be heaven right now
I recently switched our Internet Service to a new plan, upgraded from 1 Gigabit Fiber to 2 Gigabit fiber to make our bill $25 cheaper per month, so I got a new router and one extender instead of two. After the dude doing the setup left I simply went into the router setup software and updated the network name to the one we had before and same password. All our devices automatically connected to the new router :)
I would like to have fiber here, but currently don't have it. There is a chance I can have it put in soonish though, but just not soon enough. 2giga is massive.
Doesn't work in this case.
I just had to do something similar for my inlaws. I spent about and hour on chat arguing with the guy about what needed to be done. I wish you the best of luck!
Yeah, it is super annoying that I specifically asked at the store about the sim card and he said "just swap it over" - *but they are different sizes.
Very annoying!
Happy routing! 😀
I'll take the German chocolate cake please.
No routing - the new router needs a different SIM size. Now I really am annoyed, because I asked about it and they said "it will swap over"...
Cake is always good. Any cake.
Lol! First time learning about places requiring an ID when purchasing a router.
Yep. Stupid. It is stuck on my plan though, so I understand since I was noy buying it outright, but since I am in store with an app that can verify me with a simple message, it annoyed me.
How you manage time to go for gym? I know it is important to be active, many of the times I make plans to go for gym but I failed in managing my time schedule.
Can you share some positive words by which I can be motivated? I do hard to break some of my rules to cover my schedule and to be more active in my daily life.
Are you on mainstream social media like Tiktok, instagram etc?
Yes, I use Instagram & Facebook.
Use them less, go to the gym :)
Hmmm, but I don't use that much as you thinks.
People that say this tend to not realise how much they use them. If you want to be healthy, do what it takes. I think you said you were a doctor at some point - shouldn't you set an example?
Yes, I am Homeopathy Doctor.
Huh that is deep "I should do my best to set an example".
Thanks; I will strat workout by tomorrow morning (will start at home at first, will join gym after few days InshAllah).
A simple holiday can turn into such an eventful day. I always worry about whether something will go wtong before going or during the holiday.
Have you ever had anything happen?
I have had baggage stolen twice!
I lost my phone in the bus, but luckily no one saw it so I could get it at the last stop of the bus :)
Hmmm... let them eat, but what about me? I want to eat the sweet candy as well... 😀
At least the cake made the stress word surviving😂 nothing test patience like long queues and router setup
It keeps getting more and more like this in most services. They put all the effort (human and monetary) to "enroll" you in, once you are in, they just take for granted you will bring them the LTV (Life Time Value) and give all priority to new customers, avoiding to give any facilities. You waist way more time on the phone or discussing with the service attendants about stupid internal protocols on the stores, than fixing the problem. The only way to "sometimes" speed things up or get them solved is to tell them you are leaving the company for a competitor, then the whole protocol changes to "client about to leave" and you may get some "special attention".
Sometimes, when I go through such an experience, I think on older people dealing with similar problems and I just cannot imagine how they can go through them without help from relatives or friends.
Thanks
