I had a very interesting conversation with a friend of mine yesterday. I mentioned something to him; I don’t remember exactly what I said, but I know what it led to. It led to a back-and-forth about Humans and whether we have a predetermined purpose or not.
Now, I had agreed with the motion, and I still do.
I believe that everything in life has a function or purpose, and that is the utmost for all kinds of existence, from objects, inventions, plants, animals, the land, the sea, the atmosphere, space, astral bodies, etc. It’s why abuse takes place when misguided people handle things they don’t know or understand their purpose.

I believe that humans, too, should have a unique thing that they contribute to in life, in their environment. Everyone is unique; the creator made us all unique. No two prints, character, body system, etc. Then, why can’t we also have a unique purpose? Something that makes having to live in this world worthwhile or important.
I also considered that life is too big and complex to measure life by our own whims or principles alone. We aren’t authorities in all aspects of life. For life to make sense, there has to be an incorruptible body to judge these things by. For some, that’s God, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Science, The Jade Emperor, Pangu, etc. And who can say that their mind is completely autonomous and not at all affected by any factors, be it emotions, family, environment, friends, pleasures, etc.
He disagrees.
He believes that we decide our own purpose and that it has nothing to do with any entity. Your entire life is a collection of your choices, whether good or bad, and whatever you do or choose, you bear the consequences for it.
A strong argument for the autonomy of the human mind. He says we were created as creatures of free will and that is what separates us from other creatures and or creations. If we were created free and to freely choose, then why should there be a predetermined choice waiting for us at the corner, pulling us throughout life? Where is the freedom in that?
He strongly believes that the Almighty should be set aside in this matter, as He has made life a self-sustaining system that governs itself with rules and laws. Therefore, anything done inside this system should have nothing to do with the creator and hence should be based on the cause and effects of the myriad choices made by humans in this system.
We couldn’t agree, so we agreed to disagree.
I’d like to know your own view. What do you think? Mind you, this is just a fun but intellectual debate we had, throwing out points to justify what we both think. There could be a third or more views, even. Tell us who you agree with or what your own view is.
