My tip to you: If you want to eat really well abroad, eat where the locals do it. Eat where many customers come and go, which is well visited. The golden rule, in which it is said that it tastes best where as many people as possible sit, is very often true.
In my experience, I can confirm that. Often we ate in restaurants where nobody really sat in it. Nevertheless, we gave the restaurant a change. Most of the time it turned out to be confirmed and we knew why nothing was going on here. But there were still 2-3 times restaurants, where really nobody was inside, but the food was darn good and we wondered why we were the only guests.
But that's not the issue today. It's about the friendly family on Sri Lanka, where we had dinner right after our arrival. The food was really delicious. Freshly prepared and we were also allowed to look behind the scenes.
The whole family helped. In the kitchen, by the counter and while serving. A real family business. I must honestly say that we filled our bellies so much that I wasn't hungry the next day and my stomach had to digest everything because there wasn't enough time in my sleep.....
This family business is Negombo, above the airport. However, today I can no longer say the exact position. I'd find it now, but only if I was there. Nevertheless, I would like to share the pictures with you. I think they speak for themselves. Another world, far away from here and yet so close...
Mein Tipp an dich: Möchtest du im Ausland richtig gut Essen gehen, dann esse dort wo die Einheimischen es tun. Esse dort wo viele Kunden ein und aus gehen, was gut besucht ist. Die goldene Regel, in der man sagt, es schmeckt dort am besten, wo möglichst viele Leute sitzen, stimmt sehr oft.
Aus meiner Erfahrung kann ich euch das bestätigen. Oft haben wir in Restaurants gegessen, in denen wirklich keiner darin gesessen war. Trotzdem haben wir dem Restaurant eine Change gegeben. Meistens hat es sich las Bestätigung heraus gestellt und wir wussten, warum hier nichts los ist. Aber es gab dennoch 2-3 mal Restaurants, wo wirklich niemand drin war aber das Essen war verflixt lecker und wir haben uns gewundert warum wir die einzigen Gäste waren.
Aber darüber geht es heute nicht. Es geht um die freundliche Familie auf Sri Lanka, wo wir gleich nach der Ankunft dort gegessen hatten. Das Essen war wirklich sehr lecker. Frisch zubereitet und wir durften auch hinter die Kulissen blicken.
Die ganze Familie hat mitgeholfen. In der Küche, bei den Tresen und beim Servieren. Ein richtiger Familienbetrieb. Ich muss ehrlich sagen, dass wir uns die Bäuche vollgeschlagen haben, so sehr, dass ich am nächsten Tag keinen Hunger hatte und mein Magen erst noch alles verdauen musste, weil im Schlaf nicht genügend Zeit da war....
Dieser Familienbetrieb ist Negombo, oberhalb des Flughafens. Allerdings kann ich heute nicht mehr die genaue Position sagen. Ich würde zwar jetzt noch dahin finden, allerdings nur wenn ich dort bin. Trotzdem möchte ich euch an den Bildern teilhaben lassen. Ich finde, sie sprechen für sich. Eine andere Welt, weit weg von hier und dennoch so nah...
I completely agree with you. The food would always taste the best in their original recipe, so it means in the land of origin.
Except if you cook it by yourself or if the chef is a German, you would normally not find any dishes from your own country which taste just as good at home, so ...what is the point in eating your homeland dishes in a restaurant abroad?
And I always see that having a vacation abroad is not only about seeing buildings and places or moving our sleeping place or just sunbathing but more because I love to see and experience the culture personally...
And culinary is also a part of culture so culinary adeventure is also a part of experiencing the culture.
Absolutly right dear Djawa. We travel the different countrys to to taste they food and see they lifestyle. If I will go to German restaurants in foreign countries, I not need to go to thats countries, better stay at home than... so I absolutely agree with you. thanks Djawa for your great comment :-)))))
Just a simple rule: Eat where the locals eat.
It´s as easy as that.
We did the same last year when we went to Sardinia.
We were looking for a restaurant or something like that for lunch.
And found a place where no foreign cars where parked.
Great food, good prices, everything was awesome.
So be brave and go somewhere, where not all the tourists go.
And you´ll be very positive surprised.

Eigentlich super einfacher Grundsatz, werde ich wohl auch mal ausprobieren. Nur wenn ich an Deutschland denke und an Touristen die Deutschland besuchen, ist es für diese nicht wirklich zu empfehlen. Ich finde nämlich, dass die Deutschen sehr gerne und oft ausländisch Essen gehen. Egal ob italienisch, asiatisch oder amerikanisch. Oft sind gerade ausländische Restaurants in Deutschland am meisten beliebt. Klar wer im Urlaub gutes Essen haben will kann diesem Grundsatz auch in Deutschland folgen aber wer typisch deutsches Essen probieren will hat seine Schwierigkeiten.
