Although any form of communication is valid to establish some type of contact, I think that one of the most fundamental aspects that differentiates us from other animals is our ability to speak (with the purpose of also maintaining our different scales of communication, be it individual or for large audiences). Therefore, I think that in addition to our mother tongue (which is inherent to us), it is also important to learn a new language.
I could redirect the approach of this text to different types of aspects, but I would like to mention a more personal fact, which in this case was the opportunity I had to do an English exchange in Ireland, between the end of 2022 and the middle of 2023. I have nurtured and worked towards realizing this dream for many years, and my admiration (something that started while I was still in school) for the English language pushed me to get there.
However, beyond that, there was also a particular need to feel included in the world. As my view of this need increased (I always liked watching movies with original languages, and listening to music in English), I knew I was in the right direction when pursuing the idea of doing an English exchange. The dream came true, and it was an incredible experience in every aspect imaginable (including the adversities).
In terms of social inclusion, English wasn't exactly a barrier for me, but I was very surprised by the fact that I actually had a completely different idea of the language in real life (comparing what you learn in Brazil with what you learn in another country). Particularly speaking, my biggest difficulty was finding a way to better deal with different types of accents within English (such as Spanish, French or Italian).
This happened because when different native accents bring other types of sounds to English, and when I didn't understand something, they tried to say when communicating (in a primary and instinctive way), I felt the need to learn other languages. Being realistic, of course I am aware that it is not possible to learn all languages so that I feel 100% included in all countries, but the desire to learn many languages remains.
Even though there is the option of using a variety of online translator options to establish this communication (something that even happened to me while I was working in a supermarket during this same exchange... on that occasion, I had to speak to Turkish customers), nothing manages to replace the natural fluidity of a conversation through what is established by the force of intellect. Cultural inclusion through a language is something really vital and admirable.

He cultivado y trabajado para hacer realidad este sueño durante muchos años, y mi admiración (algo que comenzó cuando aún estaba en la escuela) por el idioma inglés me impulsó a lograrlo.
Sin embargo, más allá de eso, también existía una necesidad particular de sentirse incluido en el mundo. A medida que mi visión de esta necesidad fue aumentando (siempre me gustó ver películas en idiomas originales y escuchar música en inglés), supe que estaba en la dirección correcta al perseguir la idea de hacer un intercambio de inglés. El sueño se hizo realidad y fue una experiencia increíble en todos los aspectos imaginables (incluidas las adversidades).

Inclusão cultural através de algum idioma é algo realmente vital e admirável.

You're absolutely right, what differentiates us from animals is that we transfer thoughts and concepts through the use of words. Just the other day I talked about how important it was to know Italian (I am Italian) and at least one other language, namely English. In Italy we are behind on this concept. I would like my 8 year old son to already be taught both Italian and English
I have to agree with you. In 2022 I went to Italy (Rome) for the first time, and I noticed thar they have a remarkable resistance against English (and possibly other foreign languages as well).
