i don't see "htu" in the slider.... I must not still be understanding this bit.
I see the vote weight percentage, the amount of hive or pob in this case the estimated vote value and that is all.
How would I calculate this before making a vote to make sure I don't bleed out before I die?

When you vote, your vests, better known as hp, contribute rshares to the post.
Rshares are displayed in htu for people that don't yet know the difference.
When the post pays, and the rshares convert to your payout, the htu's go away.
They call what appears to be your payout htu's because the math could payout a slightly different amount of hbd's worth of hp and any liquid rewards due to a myriad of reasons from price to last second whale votes.
It simplifies the math to leave all that out and just call them htu's until they hit your wallet.
Until you have more than ~530,000hp, I would call most anything you can do on the chain as fair game.
Just power up everything you can, it's feeding the goose with the golden eggs, eh?
