As far as I know, Steemit is working on implementing ID verification system, and I am sure there will be an incentive for users to do so. As it’s apparent there are users who are ok with this, but also a big majority will choose to stay anonymous and seek/create another Interface to Steem or go with a competing platform that will offer it as a choice and dare I say, even encouraged. However, if you are one of those that will choose to stay anonymous, then you are considered to be “Shit” by Steemit CEO himself.
Both scenarios have issues.
- Verification is a barrier to entry. It would be ok if verification was only used to distribute the signup bonus (with non-verified accounts not getting it, but earning it - while also starting from a lower rep point).
- Verified accounts can get more value and then get resold for $$$ in the black market. It incentivizes an account market.
- Those who choose to stay anonymous, only entertain the illusion of anonymity - as in the long run their texts will betray them: https://steemit.com/anonymity/@alexgr/trying-to-be-anonymous-on-the-internet-and-steemit
Personally I don't think ID verifications should be enforced in an anarchic / distributed platform because it centralizes control. It could be an option though that determines whether Steemit Inc gives out a bonus out of their earlymined coins. Their coins, their criteria.
