I get the same problem with actifit sometimes. I find that when my phone gets turned off, I have to restart the actifit app or nothing gets counted. Also, be sure not to exit or if the app. Just keep it running in the background.
There is a setting to increase the sensitivity from the actifit app as well, but it uses more battery power. I find it gets a more accurate step count.

I thought that maybe my phone has problems. It is really annoying to walk or jog almost 2km and nothing gets counted!!
I hope that problem will be rectified soon. I enabled that background setting that consumes battery! I guess I need to restart Actifit every-time I restart my phone!!!
