RE: Police Reveal Surveillance of Activists In Tweet About Recent Explosions, Then Commit Obstruction

in #activism6 years ago (edited)

Sadly, I must note that the mere proof that those tabs were open on the computer on which the screenshot was taken is not proof of any crime, nor even of surveillance - although the admission is tacit in the subsequent responses of the MA authorities.

The individual who took the screenshot can be alleged to simply be interested in those entities, perhaps even a member. This is strong circumstantial evidence of surveillance, and I am personally sure it is exactly what it appears to be. It does not rise to the level of proof in a court of law given that there are plausible denials that can be issued.

I am encouraged that such denials weren't issued insofar as they weren't. Despite the failure to completely lie in every detail, it is certain to me that the denial of political interest in surveillance of these entities is not only false, it is disingenuous, as reasonable folks won't believe it, and will be as confident as am I that the authorities are lying.

Proving they're lying absent confession isn't as easy as knowing they are lying.

Thanks!
