The story of Leonid Rogozov, the doctor who operated on himself.

in #adsactly6 years ago

Today I am going to tell you a somewhat curious story about the Russian Doctor who operated on himself.

Leonid Rogozov was born in 1934 in a small village in the east of Siberia, his father was a soldier and he died at the hands of the Nazis when he was 9 years old, for this reason he did not want to know anything about the war and the army, he decided that he would become in a doctor

At 27 he was already a surgeon and joined a group of explorers to exploit Antarctica.

On April 29, 1961, Leonid was in the Russian base of Novolazarevskaya when he began to feel pain in the right side of the abdomen, his body temperature began to increase and his knowledge told him that it could not be anything other than appendicitis.

He told the other members of the base but there was no other doctor so they decided to take him to another base, Leonard asked how long the base was and was told that 1,500 km away.

Leonard told them that they would not arrive before he burst his appendix causing peritonitis and most likely death, so his only hope was to radio a plane to be transferred to another base, but the device did not work, Leonard felt more pain and he had no options, was to perform surgery himself or die.

Two brave men offered to assist him, he lay down on an improvised operating table and Leonard, using the little local anesthetic that was in the base, took the scalpel and made an incision in the abdomen, there was no turning back.

Time passed, and Leonid could not find the mirror, the angle made it difficult to see so he asked for a mirror, suddenly realized what he was doing, saw his own insides and fainted, his companions revived him and Leonid bravely followed but even with the help of the mirror I could not find the appendix, it had been 30 minutes with the abdomen open and everything seemed finished, he began to feel nauseous and dizzy and he paused as he was about to faint again.

Desperately, he took off his gloves and started rummaging inside, opening the peritoneum and finding the appendix that was ready to explode. He had been operating for an hour and a half when he surprisingly managed to remove the appendix, now he had to finish the operation.

With a total time of two hours, Leonid managed to finish the operation, he took enough antibiotics, sleeping pills and went to bed with the help of his companions.

The next morning they went to Leonard's bed, but he was ...

Awake and happy for having succeeded, he asked for water, more painkillers and sleeping pills and after two weeks, he was already working again.

He was in the base for a year but when his story was known and when he finished his work, he came back as a hero, so Boys, the next time they put the pretext of feeling bad, think of Dr. Leonid and how the wretch is making everyone look bad with his story where he literally felt pain, opened his abdomen and removed an organ to be able to return to work.
