The story of Winston Churchill

Source

Well, that man was an ancestor of Winston Churchill and it is at the Blenheim Palace where on November 30, 1874, Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born. His mother was Jeanette Churchill an American commoner who was a lover of the future king of England Edward VII, and his father was Lord Randolph Churchill, a strict member of the conservative party.

Churchill had many problems at school, his school reports (which have survived to this day) mention that he was constantly late to class, that he often got into trouble, and that he had no ambition. Of course his father repudiated him for that, so much so that they send him to a boarding school and forget him, hoping that he will build a tough character like his father's. Despite the constant letters he sent to his mother, it is known that they only saw him once a year.

Despite the abandonment, Churchill had only one goal in life, to equal his father and earn his respect, he learns his speeches even though just at that time resigned as finance minister to be severely criticized in his management. His resignation was hoping to destabilize the government but that does not happen, people repudiate him and that's where his political career ends.

In spite of that and due to his academic record, Winston Churchill for his part was only 12 years old and was already considered a "Loser" by his father, convinced that he will always be a failure, his father forces him to start a military career but Churchill is rejected several times at age 19 and finally enters the military academy and begins to stand out as he never had.

He distinguishes himself as a rider, as a shooter, as a swordsman, and all he wants is to be able to sit next to his father in parliament, but before he has to earn his respect from his father, that never happens because Lord Randolph dies consumed by the syphilis. 46 years.

The death of his father changes his life, he feels unworthy of his name. those who once saved the English empire and whose blood runs through his veins, think that as his father death can come at any time and decides to act and not waste time, at age 21 leaves the military academy as the eighth best student of his group of 150, he begins to travel the empire in search of conflicts, wants to stand out in battle and make a name for himself.

Combat in Cuba, in Sudan, in India, ends in South Africa where he becomes a war correspondent and his articles make him famous in London, when in South Africa the situation gets worse, he is ordered to retire but he is caught and taken prisoner. escape and he learns that a 25-pound reward (dead or alive) hovers over his head, his teammates believe him dead but 3 weeks later and after having survived as he could and having sneaked into a freight train, he manages to reach the english base, his companions admire him and in 1900 when he returns to England he is already a hero, although he loses his first elections, at 32 he starts an ascendant and meteoric political career and manages to get a place in the parliament with the conservatives. But they call him "The Blenheim Rat" because he betrays them and votes for the Liberals, he is the youngest member of the government and he has friends and enemies everywhere.

Her personal life leaves her aside until her mother presents Clementine Hozier with whom she marries, she was one of the few stable things in her life because in politics she changed from the conservative to the liberal side constantly, and vice versa.

At 36, Churchill is already Minister of the Interior and shows off his iron hard hand. He arrests suffragettes, confronts strikers and in 1911 the Englishmen knew their intransigence and determination, when 3 policemen are killed in an ambush and the murderers (anarchists) hide in a building on Sydney Street, Winston took a bath when he was they report the situation and run to the scene of the events where he approaches himself to negotiate and after a while he orders that they burn down the building with the criminals inside. (He also orders firefighters not to act).

His adversaries present him as irresponsible and morbid for having gone to the scene. But Churchill as Minister of the Interior focuses on the creation and development of MI6 (The British Secret Service) and has suspicions that Germany is preparing a war.

And so it was, the Kaiser Wilhelm II takes Germany to what would be the 1st World War, Churchill convinces the British Prime Minister to name him First Lord of the Admiralty. (In charge of the British Navy) Churchill surrenders to his new post with passion and modernism the fleet of the empire, his longings for innovation have no limits and his reforms allow to create real air service.

By the time World War I broke out, the English army was already prepared and modernized, but there was a problem, that war was fought in trenches, Churchill wanted to break that stalemate and wants to isolate Germany from its ally, the Ottoman Empire, but the Turks they do not give ground, and all attempts to land in Ottoman territory fail and almost 150,000 British soldiers die in the many attempts commanded by Churchill.

For the British parliament that disaster has a name: Winston Churchill.

The conservatives have not forgiven the Blenheim rat (as they called Churchill and the Liberals do not want to hear him, rejected by all, resigns his position and declares that he is finished, depressed retires to his house where he dedicates himself to painting. When he was 40 years old, he was given command of a Scottish battalion and returned to London, where he was named minister of armament and Churchill with his post ordered to build thousands of tanks that eventually helped to win the war. crown.

But at that time dies the youngest of his daughters (Marygold) and in the midst of that personal crisis suffers from appendicitis and also comes to elections (And loses) overnight stays without office, without work, without a daughter , without political party and without appendix.

The conservatives two years later offer him to be minister of finance (as his father was before) and Churchill who was first conservative, than liberal, now became conservative again.

Parliamentarian Lady Astor tells him one day in front of everyone, if I were his wife he would put poison in his coffee, Churchill responds, "Madam, if you were my wife I would drink it". But his wit did not save him from being fired again.
The crash of the stock market affects the whole world and the Minister of Finance (Churchill) does nothing to avoid the crisis. The government again repudiates him, and that is that his career, some said, was one failure after another.

  • When ordered to burn the anarchists.
  • His failure in the Dardanelles against the Ottoman Turks.
  • Your party changes and loyalty.
  • His failure as finance minister and also supported King Edward VII who wanted to marry a Wallis Simpson, a US commoner, divorced. He was the most hated parliamentarian in his country, but then why is he famous? Well, at first he was the first and perhaps the only parliamentarian who warned the world about Hitler, but Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain ignores him. After criticizing the prime minister when he gives Germany a piece of Czechoslovakia and also signs with Hitler a non-aggression pact, for the English Chamberlain is a man who has achieved peace.

    Source

For Churchill is a fool who is letting Hitler grow, and his suspicions are confirmed when the Nazi forces conquer Prague, peace is broken, 6 months after Hitler invades Poland and France and England declare war but it is too late.

England was not prepared and Germany is too strong, Neville calls Churchill and names him first Lord of the Admiralty and the English go from calling him an old bulldog, to "The Old English Lion".

They think that he is the only one who can stop Hitler, that his detractors have to support him, he is the only soldier among all the ministers, the only one who suspected Hitler, in the end it turned out that Chamberlain was a disaster and the people cry out for Churchill that At age 65 he is elected British Prime Minister. On him depended the future of England, the survival of the empire was in the hands of an old and tired Churchill, but having the position that waited all his life gives him strength, also remember that he modernized the air force also remember that he had hundreds built of tanks, that he supervised the creation of MI6 and between 1911 and 1915 modernized the Navy and the ships of his majesty.

But what Churchill gave to the British people was not weapons, it was courage. In a statement he comes out to promise the people 4 things, blood, sweat and tears, that is, Englishmen will die, they will have to work from sunrise to sunset, and they will also suffer, but I promise that the British empire will not fall, not in our guard, he tells them.

The hitherto invincible Germans promise a war without truce, war by air, by sea and by land, they will never defeat us, no matter how long the road or how hard it is, do not be afraid, tell the people I promise you the victory.

But everything is going bad for the English since France its biggest ally only resists 6 weeks against the powerful German empire army and is conquered, the Nazis march on Paris.
The English are willing to surrender and negotiate with Hitler but Churchill does not.

In 1940, the battle of Great Britain begins Hitler attacks many English cities.
We all know how it all ends for the Germans but there it was the greatness of Churchill, that old man gave strength to his people when armies fell like flies, when no whole country succumbed to fear, England was the only one that resisted from beginning to end.

But the return to normal was hard for him, after the war the old lion comes to re-election and loses it, the people do not think he can manage peace, depressed and old feels betrayed and withdraws.

The president of the USA he invites him to give a speech and the English see him with different eyes, so much so that they choose him again in 1951 and old and tired Churchill dedicates his last forces to train a new leader that leads the British Empire to a new era of splendor ...

Source

And that leader was the young Queen Elizabeth II.

Source

And so he did until his health left him in 1955, he taught the young theina all he could and although he retired from his position as prime minister but remained his Majesty's counselor until death reached him at age 90 .

The history of Churchill teaches us that our failures or successes do not matter, we can not live with old glories or many failures, we will always be as important as our last success or failure because the secret to achieving your dreams is never to give up, without pretexts , regardless of your age, success comes, if you're willing to fight, if you're realistic and you know it will not be easy, "Blood, sweat and tears," Churchill said, "But we'll get the victory."
