NewtonClassics Adopts 2 Siamese/Thai mix Streetcats

in #adventure2 years ago

Meet Bat and Jet. Their first appearance also on the website, as they've been featured on only hive.blog so far. This is the first update since they arrived in their new home, along with more pictures of the time leading up to that. See this post for previous when they were still at their birth home. After writing that, I soon changed my mind that 2 kittens were indeed better than just 1! Following some soul searching thinking time, there are now 2.

This is the story of Bat and Jet, and their first few days in the new home.

Since all time, cats have been human companions. Time we had some around here also. I'd been eating at a local restaurant where these kittens were born. Being that they hold important characteristics with a true blend of Siamese and Thai cat (there is a difference). They had unique pedigree, deserved of preservation and a better life. We took 2 home in the end. Every good man-cave deserves a good pet, so they fit the philosophy of NewtonClassics after all. It just depends whether you like cats, dogs, or other animals - cats were the choice for me.

Next post we'll either be back to cars or other adventures.

Conditions were fairly rudimentary where they came from. The owner left the mother cat to her devices most of the time, they're semi-domesticated, have food water and shelter. That's about it. To compromise we came every day to ensure access to clean water and proper weaning and human interaction since they turned 4 weeks old. At 8 weeks they came home. Only 2, there are 2 more still for adoption or who maybe will never leave. They'll need adopting soon or they might become too unruly.

Stepping out

Bat, male, about to leave his birth home

Below is at just 4 weeks. Jet has the white tuft of hair yet her eye color is yet to develop. All kittens are born blue eyed, and they develop after a few weeks. She is now developing a brilliant gem like green and amber in her eyes, as you'll see in later photos below. It's hard to tell in the picture below, but they really did fit in the palm of one hand here.

Notice the eye infection, all cleaned and cleared up now with some medication from the vet.

Soo small and so cute, they can melt even fully grown men

I'd noticed the bond that Bat and Jet had early on, and as this picture also shows from around 5 weeks old!

Below are the 2 we adopted, white and black, and one more tabby (Tiger) can be seen in the background. The 4th was also jet black, like Jet. This was the day they were taken at 8 weeks old.

More on why 2 is better

Cats need companions. That's why it can be a very good idea to take 2. They really learn a lot from each other is one thing. They can be left alone and won't get destructive due to boredom or loneliness. If you only have one cat, you must be sure you'll be with them ALL the time - especially whilst so young. However if you have 2, it's a game changer. They look after each other. So now, even at just 9 weeks - I can leave them at home for a few hours without worrying too much. They're always happy to see my return - they know who I am, and that I'm bringing all the food, snacks, toys and cuddles to them.

Off we go

Nice spacious bag with mesh windows meant I could let them settle for an hour inside and have them feel comfortable. Having already seen me come and feed and play with them, they didn't seem that bothered about it once I hauled them off. On the way back, they also watched me drive the car with great curiosity, looking out from these windows at me from the passenger seat.

Kittie Transporter

First meal, a little suspicious for all of 10 seconds

Then immediately diving right on in ...

As Good as Gold

After dinner, they didn't hesitate to know what the litter box was for. It took no more than showing them the place and the rest they figured out. Haven't missed it once since. Being one of the world's most successful hunters, Kittens will instinctively cover their tracks by seeking out loose soil or dirt to create a hole to do their busies, and then (no pun intended) bury their ... litter in it.

Later that night, once home, fed, and cleaned with some pet wipes, they slept long and hard. Maybe they'd not had such a peaceful night in clean sheets for a while.

Trip to the surgery

Wasted no time getting them to the local vets. I waited just 3 days for them to settle in a little, but didn't want to leave it. Everything checked out fine, they got de-wormed, and medicine for their eye infections.

Making it a Day Trip

They were so relaxed being out with me, even in the bag. So I took them to see their family at the street restaurant. They didn't try to run, although they are always within my control 100%, until they get big enough for a harness. They had a sniff around their mother and siblings without alarm. However this will likely be the last time they see them. Soon they will have 'forgotten' each other I believe. (We may get to find out in a few months!)

Latest

Those eyes are almost completely cleared up, and growth is also evident. They're starting to look more like miniature cats than gremlins by the day! Bat likes to pull faces. Today they started to get vocal, and start some of their first conversations with me. They're voices are still very squeaky, vocal chords need to be worked to develop but there is a definite "Meow" coming out!

YouTube to follow, more edits to be done!

Many thanks for reading and to the supporters behind this blog. There is a lot of video clips I must put together, for now you can also see more of the kittens on their social media profiles.
