It is hard to judge distances when you are cruising around the remote Crystal Desert, which is also called Antarctica but I truly prefer the Crystal Desert - it is just more poetically accurate of the feeling you have when you experience this part of the world. However, you do at times get a slight reference point, which does give you a tad bit of an idea just the real size of your surroundings.

Take a look at the iceberg that is directly behind the ship. Using that ship as a reference that iceberg dwarfs the ship, which is probably close to over a mile away from the actual ship itself...
I do not know about you but this blows my mind about the true size of the icebergs that you discover around Antarctica. This photo itself makes me want to head back down to this region sooner rather than later just so I can simply sit and experience the indescribable landscape that is the Crystal Desert.
I am standing on an island near an Adelie breeding colony in the South Shetland Islands. The ship is a few miles from shore and the iceberg is a few miles past the ship...
