SUBREGIONS OF AFRICA, COUNTRIES AND TERRITORIES.

Africa, one of the 7 continents holds the rank of second largest/most populated continent in the world. It is made up of 54 countries with Nigeria being the most populated in number. The most spoken language in Africa is the Swahili. Africa is also known as the ancestral home of the black race.

However, Africa is divided into 5 subregions as we would discuss them below citing the countries and territories within each of them.

WEST AFRICA

This is one of the regions found in Africa. It holds the position of most populated region in Africa. Countries within this region came together to form the Economic Community of West African State(ECOWAS). The countries/territories found within this region includes; Benin, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Liberia, Nigeria, Niger, Togo, Senegal, Mauritania, Sierra Leone.

EAST AFRICA

The East Africa is one of the subregions blessed with abundance of natural resources and vegetation. This region is characterized by different varieties of domestic and wild animals. Its forest is made up of tall trees. This region is also on a higher altitude thereby enabling it's athletes to excel in racing sports. The countries/territories found within this region includes; Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania, Mayotte, Somalia, South Sudan, Seychelles, Rwanda, Somaliland, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Burundi, Mauritius, Madagascar, Kenya, Djibouti, Comoros, Eritrea, French southern territories.

NORTH AFRICA

This region experiences a higher temperature. In terms of sport they are ahead of other regions. Arabic language is very popular here. Some of its countries and territories includes; Algeria, Canary Islands, Ceuta, Tunisia, Sudan, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Morocco, Melilla, Madeira, Libya, Egypt.

CENTRAL AFRICA

Angola, Cameroon,Gabon, equatorial Guinea, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Chad, Central African Republic.

SOUTHERN AFRICA

This region is composed of 5 countries. South Africa has the largest economy. The various countries that constitute this region includes; South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland.
