Interesting topic! An AI curator would probably be more objective than a human one.
The only thing is that when people find out what triggers the AI curator to give upvotes, they could generate posts that the AI curator likes.

You could also make it give different sized upvotes based on some criteria, for instance reputation, engagement etc.
