**The Dangers of Abortion.** "Air-clinic".

Dan and Susanne had been in a relationship since university days. This was the seventh year of their relationship. Dan was an engineer in one of the construction companies in town, while Suzanne was a teacher in one of the private schools. Their relationship wasn't a perfect one but at least they had stayed together through the years. Suzanne loved Dan so much that even when other suitors came for hand in marriage, she rejected them outrightly, without thinking.

It was a Friday evening and Suzanne had come to spend the weekend with Dan, as usual. This time she was in a sad mood. She had visited the doctor earlier in the day, due to some health challenges she was experiencing. The doctor ran some series of tests and confirmed her pregnant. She sat down on Dan's couch deliberating on how to break the news to Dan. He had just finished his dinner and was watching the TV in the sitting room.

"Suzzy you have been in a foul mood since you came, what's the matter?" He asked. "I remember you told me this morning that you were visiting the doctor, so how did it go?"

"Well, it went well", she replied. "The doctor said I am 3 weeks pregnant". That was it. She had said it! She let out a sigh of relief.

"What! Not again! And what's well about that?" He exclaimed. "Do you realize the implication of what you just said?"

Suzanne watched him silently without saying a word. She wasn't surprised at his reaction.

"How did this happen?" He asked her. "The last time we had sex, I thought I came out before I "released". "It was just a little that got in, that night".

"So, what are you insinuating?" She asked, eyeing him in disgust. "When I begged you to use a condom, what did you say?":

"You are my woman; I can only use that on a prostitute." "Don't worry, I will be careful". She mimicked him.

But you should have taken care of yourself." "You are not a child!". He retorted angrily.

"That's what you always say". "You always blame me each time this happens". She replied, bursting into tears.

"Crying is not the solution". Dan said.

"So what's the solution?". Suzanne asked amidst tears.

"Well, you know the implications of having a child outside wedlock". Dan replied." One, my father is an elder in the same church where your father is a deacon." He continued. Consider the shame and embarrassment we will bring to our families, if we keep this pregnancy".

"So what is the solution, Dan?", She asked again impatiently.

"Well," Dan said, clearing his throat. In a solemn voice, he continued. "Baby, the only solution I have is for you to abort it now that it's barely a month".

"Never! Suzanne screamed. "Dan you are heartless! "Have you forgotten what the doctor told us during the last abortion I had?"

"Well, he said there might be complications if we do it again. Dan replied, stressing on the 'might'. "That does not mean that there will be". "Don't worry I will take you to another of my doctor friend who is a specialist in that field". "There will be no complications I promise you dear".

Dan continued comforting and persuading Suzanne, as she sobbed incessantly.

Suzanne wept as she thought of the series of abortion she had committed, all for one man - Dan. She had had four abortions, and the last one almost took her life. Now, Dan was asking her to have yet another one. What could she do, afterall Dan was her First and she wanted him to be her Last. She couldn't afford to lose him.

"Okay Dan, let's have it done". She replied Dan who was kneeling beside her, tenderly stroking her hair in a bid to comfort her.

He stood up and pulled her close, giving her a comforting hug as he wispered:

"Baby, this is going to be the last abortion you will ever have, I promise".
"In a year's time we will get married; just be patient with me."
"I love you so much, my darling".

Suzanne looked into his eyes, they seemed sincere and honest. She felt comforted and she warmed up towards him, giving him a wary smile. Inspite of all, she loved him and would do anything to please him.

The next morning, Dan and Suzanne drove to one end of Ibadan, where Dr Adams, Dan's friend, had his clinic. The abortion was carried out successfully. However, Suzanne bled for almost two days. She was referred to the University Teaching Hospital, Ibadan. There she was given blood transfusion and intensive treatment to save her from dying. Suzanne almost lost her life. Even Dan was shaken! She remained in the hospital for three weeks until finally, she was discharged.

Suzanne vowed never to have an abortion, again. But wasn't that a little too late?

A year later Dan got married, but not to Suzanne. He got married to a 22year old girl who had just graduated from the university. Probably, he had been dating her secretly, while she was in the university.

Poor Suzanne! She wept but her tears weren't enough to bring back her dear Dan. Dan was gone and gone forever! She was downtrodden and heart broken. Life had no meaning to her anymore.

How could Dan be so heartless?! She kept on asking herself. After all the years she had spent with him - Seven solid years! God, where would she start from?.

It took Suzanne two years to get her life back together. She finally got married to Dave, a man who loved and cherished her. However, they were together for five years without an issue. Dave was a kind and patient man, but he wanted children; neither he nor Suzanne were getting any younger. He therefore persuaded his wife to visit the doctor with him. Suzanne reluctantly followed him.

At the hospital, the doctor, who was specialized in treating barren couples, ran a series of tests on both Dave and his wife. When the results came, Dave was perfectly OK, but Suzanne wasn't. Her womb had been badly damaged from her last abortion. The doctor confirmed that she could only get pregnant by a miracle!
