At a point in my life, I used to have wrong impression about albino.
Then I Hated them.
I resented them.
I stayed away from them like a plague.
If spotted albinos in anywhere, I took my hill and cast away the bad omen from me.
Hmm that was my mind set. I know you would say it is too bad. I left my school for another one during my primary school simply because of this mindset. How desperate and crazy I was?
would I admit all this was as a result of terrible experience I had with albino at my tender age.? Or what I got from movies. I found this difficult to understand.
That mindset stayed with me, haunted and terrified my emotions until year 2011, when I was in Senior secondary. Where I learnt albinism was as a result of inadequate melanin pigments in their body . This pigment makes their skin to be different from others.
I was finally convinced in year 2013, at Obafemi Awolowo university ,ile-ife where I came in as post UTME candidate. I was unfortunate to locate the exam venue on time. I was so disturbed for the fear that I might loose the exam for another year. Then, this tall, cute and beautiful lady appeared behind me and greeted me. I looked up and was shocked. Guess who I saw, an albino,

She led me to the venue, after knowing what I passed through. She waited until I am done. She got me snacks and drinks to take after the exam.I was surprised like she knew I was ulcer patient.
I got convinced with this kind-hearted lady. We shared stories, wine and dine together and I realised that albinos' heart is as white as their skin. They are just human like us.They are amazing just like us, some might not be. But she has purified my mindset about them and made me had possitve impression about them again.
Albinos are human!
Love them!
Cherish them!

I have not really had an albino coloured as friend but I've always liked and kinda pitied them. Let us quit this segregation and see them as no different from us
Yes, they are one of us.
Thanks for reading through
Lol.. I remember being young and singing _"oyinbo pepper, chuku chuku pepper" for them albinos.
They aint different from us tho. Don't judge a book by its cover or a person by the pigment of their skin
That's exactly the truth.
Thanks for taking your time to read this.
