Frequently asked questions on condoms and its usage

in #air-clinic6 years ago (edited)

Condom is an elastic thin sheat that is worn inorder to prevent the passage of sexual fluid during sexual intercourse. The use of condoms is one of the easiest ways to help couples space their children. They also offer protection against HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) and other sexually transmitted diseases when used consistently and correctly.

No one knows where the name "condom" comes from; but there were theories that infer that it was named after the French town of Condom; another suggested that it was named after Dr. Condom, a personal Doctor of Britains' King Charles II (a man renowned for his bed hopping), while the last theory suggested that it was coined from a Latin word "Condus" meaning "cup" or "receptable".

There are two types of condoms; the male and female condom. For the sake of clarity, i will love to concentrate only on the male condom.

The use of a male condom is not new to us but the questions raised by people over the years showed that quiet a lot of users/intending users still doubt its safety. Now, let me answer some frequently asked questions regarding the use of condoms.

  1. Does a condom reduce the risk of the HIV germ getting from one person to another?

Yes, if used correctly and consistently. It is a barrier through which the germ cannot pass. Think about it! If you blow a condom like a balloon, it holds the air, right? Air is made up of small units much more smaller than an HIV germ. If air cannot get through, it is impossible for HIV to get through. That is the science! Anything else people say is just talking false...

  1. Is sex enjoyable with condoms?

Sex is what you enjoyed when you and your partner make it so. Just like @air-clinic have suggested in their past posts, if both of you talk about what you like, you can make the use of condom into an enjoyable part of your lovemaking. If you wish to read more on how to make sex more enjoyable, you can look up and read air-clinic posts on Sex Health Topics such as “What’s the best time to get intimacy”, what are the best places to have sex and female condoms vs male condoms.

  1. Are all condoms the same size?

Hmmm, pretty much. Actually, there are some small variations, but Penis size is about the same around the world and condoms can stretch a huge amount, so there is no real need for different sizes. Some guys complain that condoms feel too tight; well you can pull a condom over your head. If you are bigger than that down there, my brother, it’s a record.

  1. How strong are condoms?

Condoms do not easily break IF they are used properly. Firstly, never use a lubricant like Vaseline, cocoa butter or any oily cream on the condom; this is because they weaken the latex. If you want to use a lubricant, use water-based lubricants such as Lubrica. Secondly, don’t rush or force sex. If you are making love to your partner tenderly, you will find out that it is easier and more fun.

  1. If I use two condoms at the same time, will I be better protected?

If you put one condom on over another they are much more likely to tear. The safest way is to use one condom at a time correctly following the instructions in the pack.

  1. Can condoms cause cancer or sores?

There is no evidence that this can happen. A very few people can have an allergic reaction to latex, in which case condoms made from alternative materials can be used.

Now, let me outline the effective ways to use a condom

Using a condom is easy. All you have to do is to talk about it with your partner and make sure both of you knows what to do. Wearing the condom doesn’t have to be a chore, you can have fun together putting the condom on.

Here are the proper and effective ways to use a condom:

● Tear open the condom packet carefully. Don’t use teeth, nails or any sharp object.

● Wait until the penis is fully erect; hold the tip of the condom to expel the air, roll it down over the erect penis (this allow room at the end to collect the sperm).

● After sex, hold the condom at the base of the penis and withdraw gently before the penis goes soft.

● Tie the used condom in a knot (to hold-in the sperm) and then dispose it by burning or burying it. (Do not flush it down the toilet)

● Use a new condom every time you have sex (do not re-use condoms).

I hope you have learnt something today. However, IF you're still confuse over anything regarding the subject matter, kindly drop your question in the comment box. You can also chat up a Doctor using the airclinic app for any health related issue.
