How To Cope With Mental And Emotional Problems

in #air-clinic6 years ago (edited)

Most of the time we know we are emotionally/psychologically upset and even realize it's to such an extent we need help but we fail to do so. This upset could be in the form of painful life experiences, feelings of rejection or betrayal, loss of loved ones, overwhelming family and social responsibilities, abusive life partner, relationships problems, fear of failure in our academics or other important life goals/adventures/businesses, other unexpected traumatic life experiences.

We manifest this in the form of anxiety, fear, dissociation from others, inability to concentrate, being emotionally labile, overtly sensitive/irritable to lots of things around us, inability to eat or in the worst cases having thought or attempt of suicide. We don't have to bottle up our emotional problems as it can only lead to worsening of the condition, or even physical manifestations and functional imbalance.

Things You Need To Do

There are lots of medications (drugs) out there ranging from anxiolytics (anti anxiety) to anti depressants and sedatives (improves sleep) which can be given to people with emotional upset but they can never be fully effective if you don't take care of certain things, and you can improve without these drugs just by doing these:

  • Know you have the key

You are the most important person to finding the solution to your emotional problems. You need to work on your mind and decide to see things differently. You need to choose the way you perceive things around you. You need to replace those negative thoughts with positive ones. The problem might persist but you can decide to see it differently and bother less about them. Anxiety of course worsen rather than allay matters.
Rampant anxiety ruins our equilibrium, colors our mood, and makes all the already hard tasks of living that much harder..... You can decide that the meaning you make is more important to you than the mood you find yourself in. source
  • Speak to people that matter

You need emotional support and understanding by people you know that can give you that. This could be your spouse, family members, children or good friends. You might not be objective and rational enough in your decisions/ choices. Don't do it alone. Even people that their conditions are severe enough to require drug therapy do better if they have strong family and social support.
  • Know what worths it and what doesn't

You have to set priority. Decide the things that worth your attention and emotional investment. Stay away from people and events that drain you emotionally, they don't worth it. Evaluate and be properly informed before you get involved in adventures/businesses as well other important life decisions.

  • Work on your personality

If you have temperament or attitude problems, you need to work on them. If you are too impulsive, work on it. Low self-esteem, self pity or self criticism should be dealt with. This lovely article - 5 Things to do when you feel insecure will surely be of help here.

Another Story

I went to my village for a function and saw this young lady I used to know looking unkempt. I greeted her but she passed me without a response. Then I got curious and decided to ask about her. "she is not with her sense again oo. I don't know if she wants to go mad" was the response I got.

She married but for whatever reason was brought back to the village by the husband, to be staying with her mother-in-law whom she quarrels all the time with. She was born by a single mother who is late. She gave birth and lost her baby and some weeks after started misbehaving. Her mother- in-law sent her packing and she now stays alone in her mother's house.

Don't Overlook Your Mental And Emotional Health. Seek help when you still can. Others might not do that for you when you lose touch with reality. Consult experts in @air-clinic for psychological therapy and counseling for your emotional problems.

Nice article indeed.
Most of us, in this type of cases, forget the application of prayer to Almighty and seeking help from him! It is really soothing and help us to overcome the struggle

Yea of course it helps a lot of people especially those who believe, but one should learn that seeking spiritual and medical help are not mutual exclusive.

Thanks for coming around and for your contribution.
