Gary Johnson and Aleppo

in #aleppo8 years ago (edited)

Recently on a MSNBC show Gary Johnson did not know the city Aleppo. When asked what his thoughts were on Aleppo, Gary Johnson responded that he didn't know what it was.

Why is this a big deal?

First of all, it isn't. I'd guess that perhaps a max of 10% of people in America know what Aleppo is. Aleppo is a city in Syria that is dealing with the refugee crisis across the globe. So why is the media making it a big deal?

Duh, because they absolutely despise libertarians and the idea that America doesn't have to be the watchdog or policemen of the entire world. This is unacceptable to them. The leader of the "free world" has to make sure they keep their tabs on every other country in the world.

According to the media, not knowing the city of Aleppo somehow disqualifies Gary Johnson's campaign. Say What!? Yes, apparently the media thinks that not knowing something about a different country is so important to the next american president that he should be shamed.

Now I'm not even a huge supporter of Gary Johnson, but his policies would be drastically different than the policies that led to a destabilized Aleppo. I'm not claiming to be an expert on foreign affairs and diplomacy, but c'mon the guy didn't remember the name of city. He didn't give an executive order to murder thousands of citizens in a far away country. His policy of, and I'm paraphrasing, not engaging in foreign affairs and using a national defense not a national offense would lead to drastically different scenarios around the globe. Imagine countries not loathing america because they don't have military bases surrounding the globe.

The tension, death, and despise would certainly drop. It would help not only other countries, but America as well. Imagine spending all that military money on other things than war. It could go back to the pocketbooks of the tax payers or simply pay off the debt. But you see, that would be the responsible thing to do, and politicians aren't interested in such losing propositions such as responsibility. It's too dangerous and costly to the nasty evil doers who make money off of war. A Gary Johnson presidency would shake the military industrial complex to the core. Another caveat, ironically, is that Gary Johnson has a lot of support in the Military. This reminds me when Ron Paul had a lot of military support. You see, the armed forces, or a large chunk of them actually want to do a simple job. Defend the Country. It's become so convoluted and twisted that I'm sure many armed forced members aren't ethically supportive of the current state of affairs. Gary Johnson is a threat all right, he's a threat to the nasty war mongoers.

When words are more important than actions, things are backwards. Their are estimates that anywhere from 100,000-500,00 Iraqi CIVILIANS died in the Iraq war. Why is this not egregious but Gary Johnson's flub is? Because America has become so obsessed with canned responses and political correctness, rather than the actions carried out by specific leaders. Gary Johnson made a mistake but it didn't cost any lives or $$$$$, but apparently his blunder was so grave that it will ruin his campaign. Actions no longer speak louder than words.

The ironic thing, is that Gary's popularity might rise because of this. Most people don't know who he is yet. But when they "Google Gary Johnson" (pun intended) they might actually find out they like the guy.

Sort:

Its funny how hard they attacked him for such a stupid gaffe, yet give Hillary a pass over her massive scandal, where she didn't know that "C" meant Classified. (obviously she is just a massive liar, as you can't possibly be that daft)... Johnson '08, '12, '16.
