List of AltCoins with Long Term Potential

in #altcoin7 years ago

The altcoin market is mainly full of speculative traders or dumb money. Warren Buffett made his billions off investing for the long term with undervalued or overlooked companies with a lot of utility and value. We can take some of that philosophy and put it towards the altcoin market with a buy and hold strategy. Let's look at a diversified set of projects that stand out from the crowd.

Finance

  • Ripple (XRP) - This is well backed and has a great team. It is solving the problem of slow and high cost international payments between banks. The goal is to use Ripple's technology and coins as the transfer medium. As of writing this it has 15 of the top 50 banks in the word working with them.

Technology

  • Golem (GNT) - Decentralized computer processing. This is a game changer if they can make it work. This has many applications like AI, big data analytics, video and image processing and research.
  • SiaCoin (SC) - Decentralized storage. Recently got a $400k round of funding so they can focus on fixing issues and usability. It is still unknown if this method of storage can compete with AWS, Google and DropBox.
  • MaidSafe (MAID) - Safe Storage - Just like Sia it has to compete with the big boys on storage but it comes with a full ecosystem of safe messaging, email and more.
  • Factom (FCT) - This project is well backed and is trying to create a secure data transfers and systems. This has real commercial use and a great team.

Platform:

  • NXT (NXT) - An advanced blockchain platform which builds on and improves the basic functionality of pioneering cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.
  • EOS (EOS) - The goal of EOS is enabble large corporations to automate processes, monitor assets, and create multiple applications.
  • LIsk (LSK) - Platform for decentralized blockchain applications where applications can run in Javascript.

Social

  • Steem (STEEM) - Steem puts a monetary value on quality content and information which should separate itself from the crowd. Hopefully this will evolve into a great platform for content rather and discussions.

Anonymous Transactions
Below are two of the top in this sector that are picking up adoption who want to have their transactions anonymous. They take different approaches to getting there.

  • Monero (XMR)
  • Dash (DASH)

Nice post, i am new to trading cryptocurrency and this has some good advice. I already bought some steem the other day when it was low and in the coming weeks i will probably get some of these other coins

Nice post. What do you thing about the recent roll out of Siacoin's Obelisk? Somewhere on reddit there was a thread about the Siateam wanting to sell a bunch of tokens to get some capital.

I think the decentralized storage applications will be hard to make work with them compete with google, AWS, Box, Dropbox and the rest of the big guys. It also has a problem of keeping illegal files off of other people's computers. I think a storage solution has a lot more issues than Golem which can solve a lot of issues immediately. Plus with Ethereum going to PoS if Golem is profitable then all that hardware will be turned to that network which is a HUGE win.

I get your point...
