Record low temperatures were recorded in New York, while Chicago was blanketed by snow on what was an unseasonably cold Saturday across much of the northern United States.
Now meteorologists say more freezing weather could be on the way as the date approaches Thanksgiving thanks to an unusual holding pattern of high pressure over Greenland.
The blocking pattern in the jet stream is expected to mean another spell of arctic air over the Midwest and Northeast late this coming week.
The unusual weather system may even bring snowfall to parts of the country, The Weather Channel reported.
The high pressure system is hovering over Greenland, forcing the polar jet stream to make a sharp detour southward.
